"I had a skylight replaced Scotty came out looked over the job gave me a very fair price he was very friendly and professional came back and install the New skylight had everything he needed to complete the job in one day.I would highly recommend This company to anybody considering installing a skylight or having one replaced"
"When I called for an estimate on resealing my skylights, they said that they would not reseal, only replace. Since they were replaced after Irma, I did not need them replaced, just re-sealed."
"We were unable to install the skylight due to unexpected ducts in the attic that prevented the solar tube from going in but the crew tried to overcome the limited access on 2 separate occasions. They did so without tearing up the ceiling as they planned and inspected before any cutting. I ended up hiring them for a smaller project which turned out great."

"Prompt quote. Very knowledgeable and professional. We would, have used they but our original roofer came in with a lower bid. We decided to use someone who was familiar with the original roof install."
"Overall, the re-roofing job done by Roofing USA was a good job; several aspects were done especially well, to my eye. There were also a few things that were not done so well. For background, this was a roof replacement job done on a pitched roof due to hail damage. I should note that the new roof passed the city inspector’s permit inspection with no corrections required. The estimate given us was fair and competitive with the other two estimates received. It was not the lowest, but we selected Roofing USA based on both price and other considerations. One of those was an ad in the Angie’s List magazine that offered a discount of up to $500 for roof replacements. More about that later. One thing I particularly asked each company’s estimator was whether there would be at least one person on the work crew who was fully conversant in English, recognizing that I am not very fluent in any other language and recalling a less-than-effective communication situation I had had with a contractor crew on a previous job. I was assured that there would be. Well, that was not the case. As well as I could determine none of the crew except the crew chief were at all conversant in English, and the crew chief’s English was quite limited. I don’t fault the crew; I wish the assurance I was given had been fulfilled by the company management when the crew was assigned. There were a few cases of somewhat sloppy work. In one case, a few avoidable smudges of black plastic adhesive/sealant appeared on the yellowish stucco of the house walls. The existing flashing on the lower sides of the cooler ducting and the chimney ended up quite bent and sloppily sealed where the shingles were slid under the flashing. And in the most striking case, the person who installed the skylights did not refer to or follow the installation instructions that came with the new units and did not install all of the provided attachment screws, apparently out of frustration with the way his drill-driver tool stripped out the screw heads. There were several positive aspects of the job, though. For example, the crew showed up at the promised time each day and worked past “quitting time” when necessary. Also, the closed-cut valleys were cut dead straight (even without snapping a chalk-line, I believe). The modified-bitumen covering for the low-slope patio roof was installed well and accurately. There were always a sufficient number of nails used on each shingle. On billing, the estimate was exactly adhered to - no mysterious add-ons. And I was especially pleased that the crew supervisor accommodated my concerns in the following situation. On the second planned day of the work, it had rained overnight and was raining lightly in the morning when the crew arrived, intending to continue the job. I expressed concern to the crew supervisor about installing shingles over the wet underlayment. After evaluating the condition of the roof, he concurred, and it was agreed that the crew would continue the next day, after the roof had dried. Going back to the advertised discount – when I went to the contractor’s office to settle the bill, I was told that they were no longer honoring that discount, since Angie’s List had been told to pull the ad a number of months ago but had not. Whatever the facts of the situation, I was generally dissatisfied by this turn of events. The contractor would not adhere to what the ad said, and a phone complaint to Angie’s List elicited a refusal from them to pay the discount amount. Angie’s List and the contractor need to resolve this situation or risk many more dissatisfied customers for both of them."
"I contacted Sunrise Roofing Services for a roof replacement. Karel gave me an estimate was thorough, timely, and to the penny accurate. He explained the entire process including providing insurance and license information. He installed a tarp to prevent any further leaks into my house (no additional cost). The project was delayed because I was out of town so we agreed to a no earlier than start date. When I returned they started the project within one day of that date. They showed up on time (exactly) and I ask to see the permit. They pointed to my front door where they had posted it prior to ringing the bell. I was impressed. The old roof was removed and Florida required nailing patterns completed (including the nailing affidavit). The decking was repaired. A new underlayment, roof, vents, skylights, and flashings were installed. Cleanup was thorough. All of this was completed in one day including local building permit inspections. The following day the owner, Maria Flores, came by for payment. She came prepared with Lien release forms, warranty information, affidavit of contractors final payment as well as an invoice. We settled up while discussing her business. I relayed to her the things that impressed me most. 1. She has an actual place of business (not working out of her house like too many contractors) 2. No down payment required. 3. All of the roof installers are employees (not day workers). 4. All the paperwork was completed and presented in a timely manner. 5. Her employees are top notch. Installing a roof in the summertime in Florida is brutal. They probably deserve a raise. 6. Her company is a certified installer of the CertainTeed roofing line of products. I verified this with CertainTeed prior to contracting her. Maria was cordial, well prepared, and thorough. I found that she runs a professional business with good people and would have no problem recommending her to everyone."
"Andy showed up on Labor day to look at my damaged skylight and scheduled the job for Thursday. Andy and his roofer showed up on time Thursday, replaced the skylight and repaired the roof around it. He gave us a very reasonable quote and cleaned the area after completing the repairs."
"We had 5 different roofing companies that gave us estimates. Out the 5 we had only 1 that took the time to explain with details on what needed to be done and answered all our questions with out hesitation. Our service representative was JORDAN CRONLUND. Jordan Cronlund showed us all our options type of shingles and the difference in prices and quality. He took the time to answer all of our questions with details. We felt very comfortable talking to him because he wasn’t trying to leave for another appointment like the other representative did. He worked in different parts of the roofing business so he is full of knowledge. Comparing prices they were the best price with the type of shingle we wanted. We had 1 roofing company Collis that took them 5 days for me to get an estimate and I had to keep calling the guy. With Total Home Roofing we got the estimate instantly. Collis was charging about the same Price but there were a lot of things they didn’t include. We got the top notch shingles, with a new skylight for less than Collis was charging. And Collis wasn’t giving me the top notch shingles. If you live in a raining area like I do (Florida) you have to be aware of the rain delays, if you are scheduled for Monday and it rains all day on Thursday and Friday you will probably be rescheduled for Tuesday instead of Monday. That’s what happened to us but once again Jordan was on top of it by calling us and letting us know In advance. It’s hard to get a good contractor with knowledge, experience, friendly, and great customer service and I’m glad I call Total Home Roofing. Specially I’m glad Jordan Cronlund was my representative. Don’t hesitate call them and ask for Jordan. I already referred 2 of my friends to them and they are under contract. I hope this helps you make the right call. Thank you Roland"
Common skylight issues include leaks, condensation between glass panes, damaged seals, and cracks in the glazing. Regular exposure to weather elements can lead to these problems, requiring timely attention to preserve the integrity of the skylight and the surrounding roof structure.
This is based on personal preference, budget, and the vibe you are going for with your holiday lighting. If you are looking for the cheapest option, incandescent lights are a budget-friendly choice. You can also opt for sheets of lights that cover areas such as trees and bushes for easier installation.
While it is possible to install a skylight as a DIY project, it is not recommended. Skylights are the most likely type of window to leak due to their position on the roof. Even minor mistakes during installation can lead to significant water damage and high repair costs. Additionally, working on a roof is dangerous, especially when maneuvering heavy, bulky windows. Due to the required roof modifications and the need for proper sealing and structural safety, hiring a professional skylight installer is strongly advised to avoid costly long-term issues.
Yes, you can replace a skylight without changing the entire roof—if the roof is in good shape. First, you need to make sure the roof around the skylight is intact and free of damage. Quality installation is crucial to prevent leaks, including replacing the flashing, which seals the skylight to the roof. While replacing the skylight alone is doable, it can make sense to replace both at once to streamline the work, coordinate the warranties, and reduce the risk of future leaks. If you’re unsure, reach out to a professional for help in deciding the best approach.
In most cases, installing skylights will add value to your home, making them a worthwhile investment for many homeowners. Buyers are often attracted to the aesthetic appeal of skylights, as they make rooms feel brighter, airier, and more spacious by introducing natural light without compromising privacy. Beyond aesthetics, skylights can offer monetary benefits by potentially reducing energy bills. Additionally, models that can be opened provide extra ventilation, which is particularly useful in hotter climates for allowing accumulated hot air to escape from the ceiling. However, the return on investment depends on several factors. To maximize value, it's crucial that the skylights are installed by an experienced professional to avoid risks like water damage, which can deter savvy buyers. Regular maintenance and cleaning are also important. Furthermore, choosing the right frame and glazing materials for your specific climate will enhance their performance and appeal. While skylights are generally seen as an asset, homeowners should also consider the initial cost, which averages around $1,500 for installation.
