Shots and checkups: the doctor gave them each a thorough going over, and didn't alarm or hurt them.
Mar's dental surgery: they looked after him well, and the healing process went quickly. They provided him with a pain patch that lasted about five days, and that saw him through the initial discomfort. At around $800 it was expensive, but probably no more than expected, given the amount of work.
Their premises are newish and clean, and the assistants are mostly professional in their behavior, with a couple of minor exceptions. They keep good records, have an informative website, and stay in touch by email. Overall, a good experience every time.
Xena is pretty old for a Jack Russell. She has survived a Mast-cell tumor that resulted in the amputation of a toe, a fight with a Chow that resulted in minor flesh wounds and a dislocated hip, and an un-identified liver problem that leaves her with high albumin counts. She also has a fatty tumor on her left thigh the size of a hockey puck.
Her annual check-up is a big deal to my husband and me.
The staff at Peidmont is wonderful. They are gentle with her, and take their time. I am kind of an old specimen myself, and I have trouble catching the urine for her testing, so they do it for me. We talked about her liver problem when it first showed up (she was 12) and decided to just watch and see what happened, rather than subject her to exploratory surgery. She takes over-the-counter Marin tablets for it. They could sell them to me for twice the price and I wouldn't know any better, but they wouldn't do that. When we come for Xena's annual, they always ask if we want the Senior Lab Package, because it is not inexpensive, but I've never felt pressured to get it or any of the stuff Veterenarians often sell, like special foods and hygene products.
