Clay Taylor is a really nice guy, but I don't think the job he did was the best. Our in-ground spa is made all of small tiles. The spa was leaking and it needed to be re-grouted. We told Clay we were told it would hold up the best if we used epoxy grout. He thought that was a good idea. Clay is busy so after a few calls he brought a product out for us to look at that he said would be a good grout to use, would hold up well. It wasn't the epoxy we requested. We picked a color and after a few more calls got him out to grout the pool. He said to let it set about 3 days. While cleaning the pool prior to adding water, I noticed the grout still wasn't dry after about 4 days. I called Clay and he said to give it a week or so. After about 2 weeks, in many areas the grout was still coming out. We researched the product with the manufacturer and found out the product he used was specifically NOT meant to be used in submerged pools.
We told this to Clay and he agreed to come out and fix it with the cheaper product he usually uses. We decided to let it set about a month and again after cleaning the excess grout from the pool, we were able to add water. So far it is not leaking but we paid an extra $120 for grout that didn't work.
We appreciate that Clay did come back and finish the job correctly, but we were disappointed that what happened during the process.
After this however, it did appear that everything began to go downhill. There were numerous delays in the scheduling for the actual resurfacing (we were surprised to note that the resurfacing of the pool was subcontracted out by Mr. Clay). It did appear that at this point Mr. Clay became preoccupied with other jobs that he was doing at the same time. We would often show up for work late and would have to leave early.
We were less than impressed with the resurfacing, noting that their were numerous imperfections, this including discolorations in the surface. At this point Mr. Clay informed us that these "imperfections" would disappear after the pool finish was fully "cured"
Mr. Taylor came periodically to check up and reassured us that the surface would become homogenous in appearance, after being fully cured. However, he never did tell us how long that this would take.
We then paid him in full. At that point Taylor stopped coming. We have called him several times to tell him that the surface was actually deteriorating with numerous imperfections and discolorations. Mr. Taylor never came back and he began to blame other individuals for the problem when we contacted him by telephone.
We did contract for a service by Mr. Taylor and he has not delivered. All attempts to get him to look at or inspect the surface of the pool have gone nowhere.
In retrospect, we certainly would not hire this individuals for any type of pool service.
"Member, would you please explain to me why our over all rating was a C. If we were punctual, performed the work properly rated as A, pricing was rated a B, and you gave us a C overall. Does not make sense. Most pool companies charge for than $200.00 to drain a pool, clean the interior finish and fill it back up again. Would like to know what we should have done differently. Thank you"
Clay did everything he said he was going to do and more. Communicated with us throughout the project and came over every evening during the project to scrub the pool (maintenance after resurfacing) and check on things. He ran into some unexpected problems with the deck, and he fixed them at a very reasonable price. He cut down a tree limb (which was not part of the contract) to minimize the debris falling into the pool. He continually added acid when the pool was first re-filled, checked chemicals for us, and provided us with lots of tips for proper care of the pool and deck. There are a few areas that need finishing touches, and we have no doubt that Clay will return as soon as possible to complete them and will be available to address any questions or concerns we have. The pool and deck look beautiful, and Clay was absolutely wonderful to work with. We will recommend him at every opportunity, and we will use his services again if needed.
