Individual Reviews:
The Landscaper: Manny is definitely one of the best in the business. He was our landscaper for the entire project and really our yard's hero. I couldn't have told you what I wanted, I didn't even know what a Queen Emma was, I was thinking African Lilies. (I even pointed across the street and said I like that but I don't want that. It might be nice to have a pygmy palm like them or that grassy stuff.. later found out it was Aztec grass) Good thing I told Manny have fun with it. He definitely has vision and can bring it to life. From the initial meet up down to the finishing touches, Manny handled everything and he went above and beyond. I probably talked his ear off and asked dozens of questions, he was patient and provided very knowledgeable answers. We even asked him about how to install rock around the plants that we were doing ourselves and he gave us very detailed instructions to ensure we didn't kill our plants. He made sure that we understood the initial upkeep versus the long term upkeep. Again he is great at what he does.
The Owner: Forgive me I am bad with names. I am truly impressed with the level of involvement of the owner. If I called for any reason during the process, he called me back directly and promptly. Now mind you I never called to complain, I called once about scheduling and once about payment. This business really does put the customer first and it's easy to see why, the owner makes sure every customer feels like they are a V.I.P.
The wonderful young lady who answers the phone: She is a doll, we spoke a few times and again the professionalism is spot on.
A few pieces of advice given my experience:
Understand these guys are in my opinion the best, which means they are also in high demand . One of the beauties of this business is it isn't a large business but a significantly more personal place. Also, it's landscaping service isn't just installs they run maintenance services as well and they are likely to be busy in the spring season as we all plant in spring and maintenance becomes more of a weekly thing. In other words, nothing is going in the ground the day after you call, try to allot for 1-2 weeks for design services, 1-4 weeks for install. 6 weeks total is likely a great exaggeration but if it comes in closer to two weeks you'll be pleasantly surprised instead of annoyed. Scheduling wise I think I waited a couple days initially for design and week from the time I scheduled install to actual install, but I have heard during the busy periods they have had to turn down projects because they couldn't get them on the schedule at the desired time. So be proactive call in advance, be willing to be patient, and you come out on top with outstanding results.
If you have a specific vision in mind, you probably don't need a landscape designer, you could potentially draw up your own plan and telephone the Nursery to make appointments to order your plants and request install.
If you're like me and you know you specifically want a particular flower to be included and you think you know what type of plants you want, be prepared to say so. For me I wanted something easy to handle (cause I don't have a green thumb and well I get gardening ADD) I also knew one way or another I wanted Lilies. The perfect solution, it is Florida so Manny selected lower maintenance tropical plants and my Lily is a Queen Emma. It plays a center piece to (my now) favorite flower bed. I can open my office window and stare at it all day.
If you have no idea what you want, well do some homework, if you don't know what you want than neither will the designer... At a bare minimum be able to tell them whether you want flowering plants or not, and how much maintenance you're willing to do.
