The tech Cullen was amazing helped educate me on the issue was very professional and respectful of my time. Have never had a better technician help me. I will definitely use universal heating and air conditioning again and refer friends and family. We all live in the Eagle Creek area, my mom, uncle and aunt and sister and I will make sure they also use the services of universal heating and air conditioning. Thanks to, the professional work of the tech Cullen and will be asking for him, specifically if needing service in the future.

Outstanding job done by Cullen. Very polite and professional. Wore shoe covers in the house, which many technicians don't do. Went up in the attic to inspect and repair air handlers. Drained the lines, installed new air capacitor also. Definitely worth the money. Also easy to schedule and the office called me when they were on the way.

Cullen Smith, Service Tech with Universal arrived promptly and surveyed the status of the system and determined that the compressor outside overheated and several electrical components within the compressor needed to be replaced. After the changes were made, the system was up and running again within 45 minutes. Cullen was very skilled and professional in identifying the problem and solving the problem.

I had used them previously for my spa heater and and the were fantastic, they came out on Thanksgiving! This time, I was given a diagnosis/quote on a new system ( $10K!) and I remembered how much I liked the work ,staff at the office, the techs who came out from Universal. So I gave them a call and explained the situation. Brian came out shortly and diagnosed my flooded garage to a pipe problem that could be fixed for under $20 in plastic pipe. (This job required 2 visits I was not billed for the second visit as it was the same issue) I did not need a new system just a good cleaning! What impressed me was once I called them, I could relax and know it was taken care of; that is why I called them the second time. They had made such a good impression as people who really get the job done, keep you informed and actually care. In a perfect world all companies would be like Universal.

Josh and Mark from Universal did the installation. They were very professional and courteous. They did high quality work and took great care to clean up afterwards. The unit works and looks great as does the installation.

My experience with Universal Heating and Air was not so great. I called because my Jandy heater was not working and it needed an overhaul with parts. I understood it would cost about $500. The repairman came out and worked for several hours. When he was done, I noticed my digital panel had been replaced with an on/off switch and an old fashioned dial for heat. This was done without telling me. When I asked, he told me, after the fact, it would run from the automated system. I wasn’t thrilled but thought it was probably okay. He continued with the repair. I had also requested they do a pre-emptive service on my home heat pump but he did not want to go there. He looked at a couple of connections and did a test of setting the thermostat to a lower setting. He did no service. The bill was $633 and he would not give me a copy of the receipt I signed. He said the office would email it to me the next day. They did not.

The night of the repair, I wanted to use the spa. The setting was for 102 degrees. After the heater had been running for a while, I put my hand in it. It was so hot I had to pull my hand out. The thermometer said 110 degrees. I called the office and a tech on duty called me back. A pleasant surprise.

The chief technician came out the next day to make it right. My goal was to fix the heater thermostat so it would properly turn off when it hit the set temperature. I said it is about the heater and not about fixing issues with the automated system. They spent several hours and did make improvements which was fine but they did not stop and say to me, I will have to charge you for this work; they just did it. At the end it was fixed as it should have been the day before but they told me it would cost more but couldn’t tell me how much more.

It is the next day and I still don’t have a total bill. I was told they would reduce the bill for the service on the home A/C but the charge to my card is still the $633. Even that was a fight. The office manager insisted I requested additional service for the pool heater and argued with me. They told me last night that they could give me a total this morning. I’m still waiting. When I called today they said they had so many other invoices, I would have to wait until close of business, whenever that is.

What ever happened to the customer is always right? Would I use them again? Only if they improve their customer service procedures. Techs are good but the office staff needs serious work.

Response from Universal Heating & Air Conditioning Inc

"On 07/22/2013, a cost to repair [member name removed]pool heater was given to her. Over 1 year later on 10/03/2014, she called to have the repair made. A revise amount was given to her before the job was scheduled. As we always do, we described in detail that we are proposing to remove the failed digital controller and replace it using a honeywell 10 analog type controller. Many digital controllers do not survive our relative humidity year after year. It is not as pretty, but MUCH MORE RELIABLE. It also requires several internal electrical parts to protect the heat pump properly against certain conditions, which is what we installed in [member name removed] unit. [member name removed] main controller is a Jandy RS Remote Controller. The controller that Universal Heating and Air Conditioning installed is the back up controller to be used if the main controller fails, Which when they fail (and they do) is usually when company is in town. The reason the spa over heated was do to the sensor in the RS remote side (which had nothing to do with the repair made to the pool heater) which we replaced the water sensor the next day in her RS System. The technician who installed the honeywell controller on the first day recommended a full service and clean on the A/C System. He had performed a preventative maintenance on the pool heat pump, which everyone thought she wanted. He proceeded to make notes regarding the A/C System, location, type of T-stat, etc. As far as billing goes, The bill was emailed at approx 2:00 on 10/09/14. As promised. When technicians are on jobs and extra work presents itself and is necessary to complete the quoted work, we always charge the very minimal amount. It is disappointing to receive a review like the [member name removed] review. Every time our phone rings, someone has a problem and we try our very best to make accurate recommendations and follow up with what makes the most sense for each customer for repairs or replacement. We feel our prices are very fair and often do extra performances with no extra charge. We value all our customers and would like to retain [member name removed] if possible. Sincerely, David A Jereczek Owner"

Very professional. Jim made educating me an important part of the process. Unfortunately, there was not much that was cost effective to do at this time, just a few band aids to keep it going a little longer. When the time comes for replacement, I will undoubtedly call on them. I will probably use them for general heating and A/C stuff as I think they are quite experienced and knowledgeable.

Only issue is the cost of the service call. It could have been 20-25% less expensive.

They were great. The guy came out and checked my old pool heater. He explained everything to me and told me that it really wasn't worth fixing. He was very upfront about everything. He came out by himself. He knew what he was doing. He took time, he kept through everything. He told me what was how much I could do on it so he was really good about it. I thought he was professional.

The technician arrived at my front door after i received a call form the office that he was on his way. Happy with the communication. he then proceeded to meticulously diagnose the problem which was: 1. Bad water sensor. 2. something wrong with my goldline aqualogic controller.
He replaced the water sensor in the heater. this got the heater to start up and work as expected in 'Service' mode. but under normal operation it wouldn't come on. he suggested there is something wrong with my controller and he was not authorized or skilled to do that work and i'd have to contact Hayward for that. as for now, i have a way to start up my heater and am happy with with their service.
I have to contact a Hayward authorized dealer to confirm Jim (the technician's) diagnosis on the controller side.

Universal Heating had performed a Saturday service call when the previous unit had failed, which had resulted in dumping oil into our pool. The technician advised me that the heat pump could not be repaired and that the entire unit had to be replaced. He charged me for the service call, but said I could apply that charge toward the purchase of a replacement unit. I contacted their office a few months later to get pricing on a replacement unit. Everything was handled over the phone. Shawna provided me brochures of heaters that were appropriate for my size pool and heating needs. Additionally, Julie was helpful in sharing with me her personal experience with the Pentair Ultra Temp unit we ended up buying.
Brian came to install the unit; he was on time and was very professional. He and Jim had the unit installed in about an hour and a half and walked through with me testing the unit from our remote . Everything worked well and the unit looks good next to our house. I was very pleased with my experience with Universal. I would use them again and will recommend them.

The pool heater was not producing the normal temperature. I've used Universal in the past before as they were sent out by my pool builder. I called them and they showed up on time. He knew what the problem was and proceeded to fix it.
