We contacted Holland Pools four years ago to get a bid on a project in Oviedo. Mr. Holland himself came out and walked through the whole process with us and gave us what we felt was a really fair quote. Before moving forward, Mr. Holland recommended that he check with the Seminole County zoning which he did and found that the county would not allow a pool in our yard (even though the original builder had told us we could have one). We were thoroughly impressed that he did this as part of his service and saved us a tremendous amount of pain. Obviously we didn't build a pool at that point.
Back to 2016, we had moved to Geneva, built another house and decided to put in a pool.
We contacted Holland Pools and found that Mr. Holland is enjoying a well deserved retirement, but Mr. Marshall Weiner responded and promptly got back with us. He came out to our home and was very prompt on arrival and very professional. He walked through the back yard with us, asked some very insightful questions on how we intended to use the pool, and then worked through a design and gave us a very honest quote for the complete pool.
We sat down with him in mid-January and on 3/12/2016 we had a completed pool in our back yard. Holland Pools assigned us a project supervisor (Ed Rinkavage) who was to explain the entire process to us. Ed worked with us through the whole project, stayed in constant contact with us either on the phone or in text messaging and made the entire project painless and worry free. There were situations where they went above and beyond what was required, for instance we had two large trees that needed to be moved for the pool to go in, we cut them down, and they pulled the stumps for us at no cost. We were dreading having to pull the stumps etc... but they covered it as part of their cost. Granted, they did not dispose of them, but they pulled them for free and moved them to a part of our land where we could burn them. We feel that many companies would have charged us even for just pulling them out, and Holland Pools did not.
They stayed on schedule (complete project in less than , there were no surprises or hidden costs and the end result is a beautiful back yard where we intend to have many family gatherings. Our kids have already played in the pool (thank goodness we live in Florida) and we love it.
We would recommend Holland Pools to anyone considering a pool project and if we ever build another pool, this is the company we are using.
We only had a short timeframe to get our pool built, but our salesman told us it was no problem and in fact quoted a build time 2-4 weeks shorter then everyone else, which unfortunately had the opposite effect on me then may have been intended. I was concerned that the pool would be rushed so much that I would have issues and it became a bit of a turnoff. The other thing that seemed unusual was that he never asked to meet with us or look at our property. In fairness, we were on a tight schedule and I sent him some pictures, but it seemed odd. His proposal had a boiler plate line asking to meet, but it was never asked on the phone or email.
Overall, I thought Holland was very reputable and upfront throughout the bidding process and, other then being somehow capable of building a pool 30% faster then any other bidder, did nothing to make me feel they wouldn't have done a good job. In the end, I went with a bidder that had a little better historical record and time estimates that seemed more realistic (while still recognizing the urgency).
Thank you Holland Pools for the time you spent with us during our research.
- 1. They delayed the project several times because they were overbooked.
- 2. We were unaware that they actually subcontracted our job out to another company until there were problems with the job.
- 3. When they put the base coat onto the pool surface they covered some of the original pool jets.
- 4. Our first choice of tile was not used and the second choice was shown to us in the dark on our lanai and once it was installed looked like it still had grout smeared on it.
- 5. To add salt to the wound of our ugly pool leaked and they did not believe us and would not come out to check it until we video taped water pouring through the tiles from behind the pool walls.
- 6. It took weeks until we could get them to bring covers for the in-floor cleaning system, and months before they acquired the correct ones.
- 7. The filter system no longer worked because the pipes were filled with the pebble tech surface and grout that continued to be blown out for months and we finally had to blow out of the pipes ourselves because they refuse to fix. They insisted that the system didn't work before they came to refinish the pool in the beginning.
- 8. The sales representative was arrogant and rude, the owners son and would not respond to our calls to him or the service department. He said, and quot;don't threaten me lady!and quot;
- 9. After several months of phone calls and one final email to the owner that included a detailed letter with photos and the threat of a lawsuit, they drained our pool; removed the new surface; repaired the holes; and replaced the pebble tech and quot;lifetime warrantiedand quot; surface for a second time.
- 10. Needless to say, we had to pay for a second pool of water and the damage done to our pool pump (nearly $1000) due to the cement/pebble tech surfacing agent used. They denied any responsibility.
- 11. They became nasty to us then finally stopped taking our phone calls altogether to fix our pool. It was a nightmare.
- 12. The work that we initially started in March of 2012 so that we would be able to enjoy our pool for the entire summer was torn up and unusable most of the summer, as was our lanai.
There is so much more to this story, but I'm sure you get the picture! If they would have made it right, I would not say a word, but they did not.
My concerns were NOT warranted, Mike Holland contacted me and it soon became obvious where son, Brett had learned his dedication to quality and customer satisfaction. Mike was helpful and very concerned that I received an excellent job. Any problem that occurred, he was right on top of it ensuring that it was taken care of promptly. His concern for being the and quot;BEST of the BESTand quot; is obvious by the staff and subcontractor that he employs. My pool now looks beautiful.
I would highly recommend Holland pools to any one wanting a new pool or in need of renovation to an existing pool.
