"I am a trained and certified mechanic with twelve years experience and many awards. So I do not consider myself a "backyard fix it man". All my work is fully guaranteed and I take pride in giving my customer satisfaction. Whenever I make a service call and the machines are not fixed, I never charge my customer, although time is spent in checking the machine. I am surprised and disappointed by this member's complaint. On January 1, 2011, he called me to service his lawnmower and edger which I did. The member thanked me, paid the bill and indicated that he was pleased with the job. About two months later, he again called and said that he had problems starting the lawnmower. I went to his home the following day. When I started the lawnmower, it started promptly on the first pull in the presence of he and his wife. They both started the lawnmower at the first pull, while I was there without any problem. I pointed out to them that they were improperly starting the lawnmower, by not putting the choke in the full forward position. There was no charge on this my second visit, although I drove forty miles to explain that there was nothing wrong with his lawnmower, they were just not starting it correctly. I did not take the lawnmower from their property at any time. On that second call he told me that the edger was not working. After checking the edger, I discovered that it was so. I took the EDGER but I did not take the LAWNMOWER. When I worked on the edger, it had contaminated fuel in the system. I fixed it and returned it one week later. I did not see the member but his wife received it and she was pleased with the work that was done. She paid me, I thanked her and left. Some weeks later he called and said the he didn't think that he should pay me a second time for work done on his LAWNMOWER. I explained to him that I didn't work on his LAWNMOWER, because there was nothing wrong with it. I was paid the second time for the repairs on the EDGER because there was contaminated fuel in the system. (I cannot be held responsible for the contaminated fuel the owner used in the machine) At that time he told me that he took the lawnmower to someone else who adjusted the RPM of the engine. Based on the design of the engine, adjusting the RPM would not have any effect of starting the engine, which I mentioned to him. In that conversation he also mentioned that the edger was still not working properly. I told him that I would go back and checked it out. He said do not worry, I do not want you to come and check the edger. I told him that was not fair to me, if he were dissatisfied, he should give me the chance to fix the machines. He kept insisting that he paid me twice for the LAWNMOWER which was not so. In all my years of fixing these machines, this is my first dissatisfied customer. I am very sorry that he misconceived what he paid for. I stand behind my work and my reputation speaks for itself. Thank you for giving me the chance to reply. I hope it is transparent and the truth is seen. (if the story doesn't make sense, its probably not true) Respectfully, Alfred Kiep"
