In spite of some early delay, he had other big projects, Ben made the wait well worth it. This is the best handyman work I have had done. I would highly recommend Ben.

Ben from American Home Repair Service has performed work for us on numerous previous occasion, dating back to early 2015.
this work as all the other previous works was professional, reasonable in price, and completed on time. Ben is one of the most caring, and work oriented person my family has met in a longtime. we are both senior citizens and cherish ben's friendship. he is a credit to todays world where everything is about money and what can you do for me. We absolutely loved his work! He completed everything efficiently and even brought in help to ensure the project was done on time. We had pulled him off his original project to do a couple odds and ends and he did it with a smile on his face. He even taught us how to do a few things for the future! For example, we were going to throw some chairs away. He took them from us and in two seconds, they were fixed! We didn't think they were salvageable. I highly recommend him!

Ben is the best there is. I have used him countless times since my first review and after these fixes had to write another one. He is all over every issue, calling and sending picture updates all the time. I manage the rental from afar and he keeps me at ease that he is on the job and taking care of it. Not to mention is the the most honest and fair guy out there, no one can touch him there.
In this instance he also made time to come out on both christmas and new years eve to help fix a plumbing issue, with no extra charge.
Not to mention that he can do everything from small little jobs to the big ones.
No matter what your issue is, call Ben, he is only person I trust with his services and contacts in the Wilmington area.

It went great. I was in no particular hurry for his to get to this job, so we kept in touch and once he came to start the job he was finished in just a few days. He kept things tidy and it was a pleasure to have him around.
He has also come to quote on other jobs. He gave me a quote on what he could do for me and then he also gave me ideas of what others might be able to do better, faster or cheaper. He will come back to do a punch list of items in my house, which is great because he can handle jobs like tile, installing cabinets, painting and plumbing.
Ben is a real gem.

Ben is fantastic, best handyman in the area by far. He is fair, prices cannot be beat and his quality and professionalism are top of the line.
Was getting a rental ready for sale and had quite a few items that needed to be addressed. Ben called back the same day and was out there the next and started work over labor day weekend. He kept me updated constantly with pictures, texts or calls which I greatly appreciated. He was always looking out for how to get things done on budget and had an eye out for my job specifically, which was getting ready to sell.
His original quote was spot on and really you cannot beat his price for his range of services.
He did a ton of work over 2 days including:
- fixing toilet tanks
- painting a door
- securing a hung door
- installing a fence
- disposing of junk and paint properly
- weeding
- general fixes like installing a light, mailbox and house numbers

Making the appointment was a breeze. I emailed Ben and he responded less than 12 hours later. We set up a time when he could come out to look at the job and give estimates. When that date/time arrived Ben showed up right on time. Due to the nature of the repairs (couldn't tell how much if any wood rot there was until the steps were torn out) it was hard to determine an exact amount so he gave both best and worst case scenarios. We made arrangements for when the actual work would take place.
On the date when the actual work took place, once again Ben showed up on time. He quickly got started assessing what all the job would entail. He then made a list of materials needed and we went to Home Depot to pick up the supplies. Once we returned to my home he got started right away and really impressed me with his knowledge of not just the job at hand but on home restoration in general. I also liked that he didn't mind me watching over his shoulder when he was doing something I considered interesting.
Once he got started Ben was fast and efficient which is obviously a big plus since there are many ways hourly contractors can drag their feet. In the end the job was completed faster than I expected and also MUCH cheaper than I was expecting. Before leaving Ben conducted a thorough cleanup of the area and I had an extra hour and a half of free time that was I wasn't expecting. All in all it was a very pleasant experience for something that could have been much more stressful.
I actually plan on having Ben out to do more work this next weekend and in the future. I guess it really worked out that the first handyman I contacted was busy because finding Ben the best thing that could have happened to me.

Ben is fantastic! He responded immediately even though he was out of the state and he continued to be very responsive as he worked on our house. He completed a list of repairs and was very fair with his time and ensuring we were only charged for time he was actually working on something. He worked quickly but thoroughly. Ben even went out of his way to stick around when our counters were being installed (without charging us) to ensure the work was done right (and it would not have been had he not been there). Ben was great with our pets and kids and a pleasure to have around. We will certainly hire him again and recommend him to others.

The projects took a few days (with time in between due to a holiday and weather) but the results are beautiful. He knew what he was doing and was not bothered by kids or dog. Worked with us and used supplies we had already purchased for the jobs and gave guidance about what else was needed. Did not try to talk us into additional services, only what we really needed. Would definately use again!

The attic access opening was completely wrapped in fire rated wallboard. The hatch was also backed by 5/8" plywood then a 1/2" fire rated wallboard applied on top of that. The attic access was then prepped and painted to provide a very finished appearance.
The clean out service provided was done on time and at a very reasonable cost. Mr. Severance was able to recycle or re-purpose a lot of the things that we needed to get rid of.
We found Mr. Severance to be very professional, courteous, punctual, and reasonably priced. We would definitely use him again.

I got a new over the range microwave and called Ben to remove the old one and install the new one. He answered promptly and was able to come out the next day to complete the job. Ben was prompt and courteous. The job was well done and at a reasonable rate. I would definitely recommend this service provider.

The project went well. Ben answered my call to request an estimate immediately and showed up on time for both the estimate appointment and to start the project. He was curious, professional, and easily understood my needs and the best way to approach it. I am happy with the results and thought the price was very reasonable.

Bn Severance was highly recommended to me. I hired him to install a ceiling fan on our very high (24 foot) cathedral ceiling. He exceeded my expectations in every respect. First, I have tried and failed in the past to find handymen to tackle high work indoors. Most outright refuse. Ben was not hesitant; he was enthusiastic. Second, he is a small business and he did not then own scaffolding ( I've since heard from him that he's purchased it) but he immediately volunteered to borrow scaffolding to spare me the expense of renting it. It did take about 10 days and one reschedule to get a day when I and the scaffolding were both available, but this was in no way Ben's fault. During this period, he was frequently in touch with me and very attentive to my schedule.
Third,on the scheduled day, he arrived promptly with a helper and got to work immediately. They got the whole job done (old fan down, new one up) cleaned up and furniture replaced in 1.5 hours which was exactly what Ben had estimated. The fan runs perfectly.
Fourth,both Ben and his helper were polite, friendly and businesslike. I felt completely confident in their work and their demeanor.
Finally, despite the extra difficulty of removing and installing heavy fans while working at a high elevation and above his head Ben charged me his regular (very low) hourly rate. After not showing up for 2 previously scheduled appointments he and an assistant showed up in my driveway unannounced. I contacted my husband who was not at home to let him know that Bob Severance and another man were at my house to do previously promised work which only consisted of cleaning out my drain at the bottom of my steps leading to the basement door. Bob had no identification and did not have a receipt book to give me a receipt for payment of work done. Even though on Angies' list it states that he offers senior citizen discount, it was not offered. After taking approximately 20 leaves out of the drain, they and other rubbish were left next to the drain. I not only will never use his services again I no longer trust Angies list as a reputable source for selecting people to perform a variety of services. I am a senior citizen who is battling cancer and after my experience, I am afraid these people are going to come back and hurt me. No one shouldbe in this position.

"I don't understand this very negative review as the client was happy when we left and even said she would call us shortly to do more work. In answer to her concerns let me say the following. First, the usual charge for two men and a truck is $125. I charged the client only $50 for her job, as per our senior discount. I'm sorry she didn't understand that. Second, the client and I spoke on the phone twice about re-scheduling the job. Third, had she asked for identification it would have been provided. As for the work itself we removed a gallon of silt and mud from the drain box and cleaned up thoroughly. Last and most important, though, I'm shocked that this client said she was afraid of us. I've racked my brain and I can't think of anything we might have said or done to make her say that. It's a really unfair accusation and it makes me feel terrible.
