TruGreen Lawn Care - 5895

I used their service for two seasons, and received 7 treatments plus an Aearation & Overseeing at the end during each season. I must say that their formula works because after the first couple of treatments, my yard went from a dirt pile to sprouting full, very green grass. At the end of the two seasons, most of my yard came in, with the exception of a few bald spots near the garden. I gave them a C for price, because they are on the higher side when compared to other services-particularly the aeration service. I do like that their customer guarantee provides that they will come back out and repeat your last treatment if you aren't satisfied or aren't seeing results, and I've only had to do that twice in two seasons. Unfortunately, if you aren't home to catch the service tech who is treating your lawn, it's almost impossible to get anyone on the phone directly from the office. Calls always go through a central customer service line, and I've never spoken to my service tech, even after leaving a message or two. Which is why I gave them a C on responsiveness.

I would have graded them 0 but it was not available. We signed up for pH treatment, aeration, and seeding in March. We told them this was prepping to sell our house and needed it done now. We prepaid and our credit card was charged March 3rd. They came out and did a Lyme treatment and were told they would be back in 2 weeks. My husband called after 3 weeks and was told they would check into it. I called customer service on April 10th and was told our account showed a fall treatment. She apologized for the error and said she would correct it and we should hear from the shortly to set a date. After not being contacted in 3 days, I called customer service again. I was told we were on a fall schedule.....I explained my prior call and was told the last person did not process the change correctly. I explained that if seeding had been done on time, the grass would be growing now. She said it would be 5 days processing time and 5 days to schedule. Long story short, my husband was contacted by the Harrington office and was told they are crediting our account because they don't have time to do it now. This is why I rate them a BIG Zero. They did refund my credit card.

They respond but sometimes here lately I had to call because they call one day and they want to come out the next.? It's like if they don't reach you the day that they call, they send their technicians out anyways and nobody likes that. If your going to service my lawn, be sure that you get my permission before you come out because you just need it from the home owner to me that's a given.? For me the case was, I needed to know that so I could be there and not only that because they will do a service and my back yard is dry and it's sandy.? There's nothing out there really.? So why you try to put chemicals down and make something grow when there's nothing out there to grow?? Those guys will come out and they'll just do it because they have a work order to do it as opposed to taking the time and talking to the homeowner before they do an application so that's my biggest problem.? They're punctual and on time.? As of right, now I will still use them.

I really don't have any complaints. They're very prompt, they give you a notice about when they're going to come and service the yard, the technicians are always willing to go over any questions I have, any issues that may be presented, they're very thorough.

It's good. I've probably been using them for 10 years. I have complained once or twice about their responsiveness, and they came right out and fixed the problem. They seem to be there, I prepay so they still come out. I've had some good guys, and some that were a little not so good to talk to.

Lawn greatly improved. Tree and shrub care only provided moderate results

Tru Green has taken over Scotts Lawn Care. Things have improved under Tru Green.

They're a bit pricey but our lawn looks good.

In the past I have used trugreen and had great results but since moving to avondale, pa I can not describe how bad my lawn looks. I have had over 5 treatments. Overall I still have an overwelming amount of crab grass in my lawn and still have a lot of weeds. I have had them come back out to treat the weeds 2 separate times and it still looks the same. The back of my yard has now developed several burn outs. On my last treatment the service man asked my wife if we were ok with the weeds since he was out a couple weeks prior because they are still out of control. She is busy caring for a new born. She asked a couple questions and he responded that he is only putting down fertilizer and wanted to tell her that is what he is going to do. I am glad he looked at the lawn and ignored all the crab grass and weeds. I didn't know it was our job to keep track of the condition of the lawn. I called to cancel and they put me in touch with the service manager who informed me that on every trip they should be applying weed control. HE did not understand why he did not treat the weeds and said that it is unacceptable not to look at the lawn and to not treat for weeds. I guess we were the exception. I mentioned that I did not what the same service man since we have had 5 treatments and our lawn still looks like crap. He said that he would have another service man take over. Guess who came back. The same service guy and guess what we have even more crab grass now. Needless to say I cancelled and can not believe my lawn looks the way it does. Thanks for all you have done trugreen.

I'm on a program with them so they just show up and do what needs to be done, which I kind of like. I just know that they're coming the following day but the nice part about it is I don't need to be home when they do.

They did a pretty good job. The problem was never resolved.

Fine. They have been treating my lawn for over a year.

I think they're good. My lawn isn't quite where I would like it to be, but I think it might be heading in the right direction. I like the fact that they analyze the lawn and try to determine what it needs. I've seen them do the application, so they actually do the application. What I don't like so far is in the front yard, there are still some weeds that I think by now they should've gotten rid of them and they haven't, so they might be analyzing the lawn, but they don't seem to be applying what they should be applying to get rid of all the weeds.

It started out great, but went downhill very fast.  They refused to spray weed killer exactly where I wanted it.  Then on two occasions, I was home and witnessed them, pulling up out front of my house, walking to the back, leaving a bill on the door and not doing any services.  When I called, they told me that they would send someone out again and the same thing happened, therefore, I have no idea, how many times this had happened while I was at work.  Called and cancelled my services.

The job was fine. They come three times a year. I think we use them because of the price. They are okay but not thorough enough.

My primary reason for hiring Scotts was to reduce the crab grass in my lawn.  Their treatment of early emerging weeds in May and June was marginal.  I called and asked them to come back between treatments because several types of weeds were flourishing.  They came out but it didn't appear their treatment was effective, as I never saw a dying or dead weed afterwards.  I think the grass simply came in thick enough that it kept those weeds at bay.
The crab grass was a different story.  Beginning in July, when crab grass sprouts, it went gang busters in my lawn.  I called Scotts early in the month when I noticed a problem and asked them to treat it.  They said they'd be out in 10 days to 2 weeks.  I replied that the lawn would be shot by then because the crab grass would be established.  They said they'd try to get there sooner.  After 8 days I called again to say the lawn was in trouble and I really needed them to treat it.  They said they'd get there within 10 days.  I said that was unacceptable and someone came out 2 days later.  He left a treatment summary that said "please allow 5-6 weeks for the crab grass to die."  That's absurd.  What he quoted me was the normal life cycle of crab grass.  In fact, not a blade of crab grass died in my yard as a result of Scotts treatment.  It's all still there, weeks after their technician sprayed something on the yard.  One week after Scotts purportedly treated the crab grass I went to Home Depot and bought Ortho crab grass spray, applied it as directed to one small area, and the crab grass I hit was half dead within two days.  No weed treated by Scotts in my yard has ever died.
After it was clear the crab grass battle was lost, I called the Scotts branch in New Castle and asked for a supervisor to come look at my lawn and tell me whether it's the lawn the company promises in its advertisements.  Twice I called and the receptionist said she would forward my messages to the branch manager.  No one returned my calls.  I called a third time and, after the receptionist confirmed the branch manager received my previous messages, I asked for a refund of the balance of my prepayment.  It was returned to my credit card.  But, Scott's kept $400 of my money and I have a lawn that looks no different than it did last year when no professionals treated it.
 
My strong suspicion is Scotts either did not apply the right chemicals to the lawn and/or did not apply them correctly.  Then, Scotts was unresponsive to my concerns.  Even had they treated the lawn correctly after my repeated calls, their long delay in responding during peak crab grass season ensured there was going to be damage from crab grass crowding out desirable grasses.
 
Lastly, while I'm greatly disappointed with the way my lawn looks I'm even more disappointed in the branch manager's lack of professionalism.  I expected him to come to the house and offer options to minimize the damage to my yard.  If there were no viable options, I expected him to offer a refund of some part of the money Scotts had already charged against my prepayment since the service his branch provided fell far short of what was advertised and expected.  Instead, he ignored a dissatisfied customer.

We like that they're a national brand - we like their products. They have a credibility from that. I've also used their services for a long time and have been satisfied.

It took them a little while to get to me, but they finally did and the lawn is looking a lot better now. The prices are competitive. They were pretty polite on the phone when I talk to them. I did not get to talk to a technician because he came when I was not home and treated the grass. I wanted to talk to the technician. Other than that, it has been a pretty good ordeal with them.
