Educational materials better than all companies researched. Pricing was reasonable.
Punctuality and attention to detail along the way very good. Administration of paperwork executed with a high degree of confidence.
Installation of 8kw Generac generator installed at the same time. Installation was clean and effective.
An electrician came out and within the first five minutes of reviewing said it would most likely take more than one hour. After about a 25-30 minute assessment said he had to call his boss to figure out how to do the install. After a 10 minute call (which was kind of odd since someone in an office was making an assessment based on a verbal description of the situation when I would have expected the person doing the job would knowledgable enough to solve the situation) he reached a decision on how to do the job.
After talking with his boss he informed me of the work that would be done to do the install but needed to go out to get all the material. I said I had no problem with this except I felt uncomfortable to have an open ended hourly agreement and wouldn't want to be stuck with a (and threw as a way to illustrate my point) 6 to 7 hour bill. He said that was precisely how long it would take.
$700 to do a fan install??
I told him this was unacceptable, paid for the first hour and let him go. When he asked about the breaker I demurred stating my uneasiness about pricing. Besides, I was skeptical about the solution that was proposed and the manner it came about.
I was able to get another electrician within the next 2 hours who had the fan installed in less than an hour. It works perfectly.
Too bad.
UPDATE: Got a call back from the owner. He expressed his apologies for the way things turned out and sent a refund check. He also mentioned a free estimate should have been given and will be given should I choose to call them back. Everyone deserves a second chance especially if they are going to take responsibility.
I did get an estimate from 3 other vendors, but none of them came close to being as helpful in the estimate, and it was obvious some of them were new to the business.
As for the work, the crew was on time, professional, did good work, and cleaned up after themselves. The job had an assigned "project manager" that you can ask question of and work with to resolve issues. The only surprise that came up in the project Dale had warned me might be an issue.
Overall, I was very happy with the work and end result. I would highly recommend CMI to anyone looking for electrical work or to install a solar array.
