Though not the absolute cheapest bid, we chose CMI because of good ratings and their responsiveness to our questions.  Their estimator was excellent at explaining everything from how solar worked, to federal and state tax incentives, to the sale of energy credits,  Their proposal was very clear and comprehensive and clearly outlined the steps from permiting through installation and activation of the system.  The CMI office staff was excellent at keeping us informed of progress, keeping us on track with paperwork (including reminding us when we dropped the ball on something!), handling all of the inspections and different permits required, and scheduling all phases of the project.  When complete, the owner gave us a nice walkthrough of the whole system.  We had one small problem with a connection going bad after the first week which they came out and addressed promptly.  We would definitely recommend them and use them again.

Educational materials better than all companies researched.  Pricing was reasonable.

Punctuality and attention to detail along the way very good.  Administration of paperwork executed with a high degree of confidence.

Installation of 8kw Generac generator installed at the same time.  Installation was clean and effective.

I contacted this provider for a fan install and replace a faulty breaker.  Liked the fact they did solar energy which I'm interested in doing in the future.  Chisty answered the phone, was very nice and very clear on pricing.  I was to be charged $128 for the first hour and if the work took longer would be billed in 15 minute increments for the fan install.  The faulty breaker would be charged separately (I can't recall what the fina price was for this job).  I was ok with pricing thinking it could take about 2 hours to do the job since I had prepared all I could beforehand (fan assembly, furniture moving, etc.)
An electrician came out and within the first five minutes of reviewing said it would most likely take more than one hour.  After about a 25-30 minute assessment said he had to call his boss to figure out how to do the install.  After a 10 minute call (which was kind of odd since someone in an office was making an assessment based on a verbal description of the situation when I would have expected the person doing the job would knowledgable enough to solve the situation) he reached a decision on how to do the job.
After talking with his boss he informed me of the work that would be done to do the install but needed to go out to get all the material.  I said I had no problem with this except I felt uncomfortable to have an open ended hourly agreement and wouldn't want to be stuck with a (and threw as a way to illustrate my point) 6 to 7 hour bill.  He said that was precisely how long it would take.
$700 to do a fan install??
I told him this was unacceptable, paid for the first hour and let him go.  When he asked about the breaker I demurred stating my uneasiness about pricing.  Besides, I was skeptical about the solution that was proposed and the manner it came about.
I was able to get another electrician within the next 2 hours who had the fan installed in less than an hour.  It works perfectly.
Too bad.

UPDATE: Got a call back from the owner.  He expressed his apologies for the way things turned out and sent a refund check.  He also mentioned a free estimate should have been given and will be given should I choose to call them back.  Everyone deserves a second chance especially if they are going to take responsibility.

We went with CMI and they were very professional and explained everything as they went along. Took care of permits and secured the plumbing for the gas line. Dale showed up several time to check on things and then the final day to go over how the system works. Great people to work with and would recommend them to anyone interested in using them.

Excellent.  The initial estimate for the solar array was done by Dale Davis, the owner.   He took that time to answer all my questions (and there were many), draw up the best layout, review equipment options, and was extremely helpful and knowledgeable.  He also know about the various state and Federal rebate programs.  The written estimate was detailed and helpful.

I did get an estimate from 3 other vendors, but none of them came close to being as helpful in the estimate, and it was obvious some of them were new to the business.

As for the work, the crew was on time, professional, did good work, and cleaned up after themselves.  The job had an assigned "project manager" that you can ask question of and work with to resolve issues.  The only surprise that came up in the project Dale had warned me might be an issue.

Overall, I was very happy with the work and end result.  I would highly recommend CMI to anyone looking for electrical work or to install a solar array.
