 + -1 moreI took my truck to Proficiency Automotive without an appointment after I saw positive reviews on Angie's List. Bill was very knowledgeable about the kind of problem I had. He had a backlog of other work, but I left the truck with him knowing the work would take a few days. It actually took a week due in part to delivery of the wrong parts which had to be returned. It has been a couple months since the work was completed. The truck runs very well. No problems with the work. I saved a few hundred dollars by taking the truck to Bill.
Description of Work: My 2006 Chevy Colorado needed major work to correct compression and ignition problems. The Chevy dealer estimated that the job would cost close to $1,400.

 + -1 moreNot such good news for us....but Bill is an honest, hard-working man. I wish we had more repairman that don't rip off "mechanically challenged" customers !!
Description of Work: We were on vacation when our car started acting up. We own a 2004 Buick Rendezvous with 182,000 miles. Bill took a test drive and looked at the underside of the vehicle......bad news for us.....we needed a new transmission. He knew we were on vacation from NJ and said the car would make it home so we could get it fixed locally (since it is our only vehicle). He also diagnosed another "hub" problem that needed fixed and gave us an approximate price so we would have a general price to compare for the repair job. We asked him how much we owed him ....zero!! He said to just remember him the next time we need repairs. That is a definite!!

 + -1 moreProficiency Automotive is a relatively new business and small (pretty much a one-man operation). The shop is off the beaten track and pretty basic (two bays in a refitted pole barn), plus a neat storage garage that holds, among other things, a mint-condition restored 1931 Chevrolet sedan. The professionalism of Proficiency is not the pressed-uniform-antiseptic-counter-hidden-shop type. We met a personable, VERY competent, helpful and accommodating young technician who responded to questions, offered advice, and showed good insight. Service was prompt, thorough, and very reasonably priced.
Description of Work: Oil change and windshield wiper replacement on 2004 Toyota Corolla, including check of undercarriage, brakes, tires, etc.
