I expected a delay, as there were very few rain free days in May. But John said the first sunny Saturday, the crew would install the roof. John asked if we would mind the work being done on Memorial Day weekend, and we had no objection. We received a call with the shingle delivery time and another call about the time of the work. The shingles were stacked directly on the roof for the next morning. The crew arrived on time, at 7:30 am and the roof was completed by 1:30 ! Other than the noise, there was no disruption. I particularly liked that the old roofing was dumped right into a truck and immediately taken away. And the small touches were nice; the flashing and vent pipes were painted to match the roof. It looks better because those white vents no longer advertise themselves against the dark roof. I then noticed this was never done on my neighbors roof. I should also add that we had two old DISH satellites on our roof and they were removed and taken away at no extra charge. The crew is astonishingly neat. I found only 4 roofing nails! and only a few tiny bits of tar paper. it is impossible to get every piece but these guys come as close as one can get The foreman was friendly. I particularly enjoyed chatting with the elder Mr. Steele, who started the company many years ago and refuses to retire, even at 82! So he drives the truck. The crew does not take payment; we called and were instructed to mail a check. I was happiest about what didn't happen....or things I've observed when neighbors had their roofs done. One neighbor had a huge dumpster sitting on the street, for several days. I've also seen large pallets of shingles sitting for a week or more. I picked up tiny plastic adhesive shingle wrappings for months thanks to another neighbor's roofing project. The neighbor across the street convinced a roofer to put a roof, over his roof. Most reputable roofers will not do this, as it is impossible to determine damage to the plywood underneath. A new roof is, as one of friends once said "the most boring home project in the world", but John Steele and crew made it as pleasant as possible. The roof looks great!

For me it comes down to, I want to meet the person. It wasn't a sales pitch, it wasn't like some of these others that know what they are doing, coming out and spending 2 hours. We knew what we had to spend. We got exactly what we wanted and we are very happy. They didn't try the upsell. At no point was the up sell attempted. He knew what was in our house. It was work that had to be done, it was a definite need. We are not these kind of people that can pretty up a house, there was a need.

The experience was excellent. They were courteous and clean. They did it right the first time and they were professional.

I had new shingles installed on my home and garage in additon to having ridge vents added. His crew was at the site when promised, quick to get the job completed and performed their work in a professional manner. In addition, new facia and soffits and gutters were installed. That work was completed by a different crew. Thiey were were friendly, did an excellent job and did not leave any cleanup for me. I would use them again.

I contacted the company and they came quickly to give an estimate. I then had difficulty contacting them with questions. I left several messages over a couple of weeks before I received a return call. After I sent in the signed bid it took several weeks before the work was done. The workman was professional and did a beautiful job. We were very happy with the work that was done.

I am pleased with the quality of the workmanship, materials and timing. The workers could have done a better job of cleaning up the property after the job was completed, as I found nails and vinyl scraps around the house perimeter. The bill was split in two - one charge for the siding, gutters and downspouts and one for the roofing (I actually had to call the office and ask for the second bill. Dummy me!). One of the workers told my son to move his car, instead of asking nicely. The work could have been completed a day sooner, but there were not enough workers on the job on day one. (I did screen repairs and window-well covers myself).

The job was completed in 1/2 day. Crew started at 7 am, cleared old material quickly and cleanly and removed from site. The removal of plywood was priced on a per sheet basis, as John could not see the entire surface from underneath dueto obstructions. Ice shield was applied, new shingles installed and a new ridge vent was installed. The final product was neatly done, the ridge vent looked much better and secure, and the roof edges more properly overhung the gutters.
While John's estimate was a bit higher than others, he came recommended by others in the area, and the work performed was first rate

Our roof was leaking from deteriorating plywood that should have been replaced 8 years ago when we had new shingles installed by another contractor. We received several estimates from local, well-known, highly rated roofiing contractors. All the estimators were courteous and professional, but John Steele was definitely the best choice for us. He was fair and honest and took the time to explain what he would recommend. The other estimates we received ranged from $15k to $18k. For the quality service and product we received, $12k was a great price! The crews were always on-time, professional, and worked very efficiently. They were also very clean and finished the job in less than two days. John was on-site during the construction and checked-in to see if we had and questions.

I contacted a number of companies but all except John Steele wanted to charge to come out. They were very professional and even fixed some roof tiles for no charge. Will use again for any roof or siding problems.

Great experience overall. We solicited a total of 4 quotes from local companies. The prices ranged from $30K to $12K. The high pressure sales pitches were a turn off and after doing research online (BBB and ratings on sites like Angies List, Yahoo, etc.) we decided that going with a company with years of experience, family owned and excellent overall ratings -- plus the price was much easier to handle -- going with John E Steele was a no brainer. They showed up on time, were very courteous, they were clean and they did a great job. Great communication. I'd use them again without a doubt. And we did -- we had them install a new front door system and a new french door for our back patio. Great people, fair prices, quality work. A+ all the way.

Very satisfied. Job was completed in less than 1 day. No mess, no dumpster. Price came in 1/2 as much as a large competitor in the area. Family run business with word of mouth clients. Easy to work with, and accomodated our specific needs.
