HOCKESSIN ANIMAL HOSPITAL

Boarded my dog twice in a month. First was a week-long. I paid for "extra walks". Dog bed comes home soaking wet in urine. I said, ok maybe he was nervous. But a couple of weeks later, I boarded him for 3 nights. Again, his bed came home soaking wet in urine! "Extra walks" and all. FYI, my dog has NEVER done this at home or any other time he was boarded! Never again!!

We also use this hospital for grooming (Danielle) and day boarding and both services are excellent.  Very pleasant staff and feel comfortable leaving our dog there for the day.

This is the second time I have used Hockessin for boarding. I do believe they do a competent job of looking after the dogs, but I have issues with many of their procedures and rules. If you bring your dog and they stay over a Sunday, please know that there is no one there to pick up the phone if you want to call and see how your pet is doing. I was assured by the person who picks up the phone at another location that there is "kennel staff" there at Hockessin, there is no way of knowing what is happening there on Sundays (or holidays). They have a rigid policy of requiring kennel cough vaccine every six months and have now added a canine influenza vaccine that the dog must have. I know nothing about this vaccine and had to insist that it not be given to my older dog. The staff also required a fecal exam, which my dog had in August, just over the six month requirement. At $40+ this doubled the fee for one night's stay to just under $80.00! On Sundays, you must pick up your dog between 6:00 and 6:30, as that is when they have someone standing in the front to fetch your dog from the kennel. In summary, although competent, Hockessin Animal Hospital has so many requirements that the customer must comply with, that I don't think we will be using them again, short of an emergency. I do qualify this review by saying that we mostly have someone watch our dog in our home, so this does color my view of boarding facilities.

I am very happy with them. They are very compassionate and make sure to answer all of our questions. They do a great job with my animals and I am pleased.
