They did a great a job. They came and counseled me on what type of insulation to use. I relied on their expertise in that area. I only met the sales guy,  he was great. I didn't meet the other people.

We had several men here, they had a tractor trailer load of insulation. We're building a new auditorium and so we had a lot of rolls of insulation. Basically, the driver parked the truck, got in and started rolling it out, we pulled it off and put it in a holding area for us. They did fine, it was great. They delivered it, we have it. It was in large rolls which our contractors like I guess because they put it on the roof, put it on the sides, cut it, rolled it out from there. So it was much easier for them with the forklift. They did great, we didn't have any problems at all. They delivered when they said they were going to deliver. They've put it up, it looks really good, it is thick insulation. The driver was great, he got on and he did a lot of work pushing these big things off. They were here, got it delivered and pretty much everything went well.

They came and removed all the old plastic in the crawlspace.  Next they came to spray the foam insulation.  I went under to inspect.  In some areas, the foam was pulling away from the beams and cinder blocks.  I Googled to see why that was happening.  Those sources said it was either a bad chemical prep or a undermaintenanced machinery. They came back to correct.  Meanwhile, we had other issues under the house that the workers underneath did not report.... out of courtesy. Air duct was split 2 feet wide coming off the furnance blower.  It wasn't split when I did the initial inspection to determine we should go ahead and have this spray insulation put in.  As a courtesy, the workers were to reinstall an aluminum dryer hose we had purchased.. They did install and kept the many feet of remaining dryer vent until I approached them at their truck to ask for it back. Again, I inspected the new re-foaming.  Again, it was pulling away or missing in areas it should have been sprayed.  They also did not fully close our crawlspace vents to the outside and foam leaked to the outside - unsightlly.  But, we are at fault, they said, because they were broken.  Why they didn't push them closed before foaming is unclear to us.... common sense professionals may have thought of that detail and how it would reflect on their overall finished workmanship.  They discounted our cost $1,000.  Small change to how many times, we, the home owner had to crawl underneath to inspect their work.  Had we not done that, we would never have seen the foam separating from the beams.  Plus, we would not have know were were air conditioning and heating the crawl space with that big split in the furnance box.
Response from Delmarva Insulation
"While we appreciate the commentary of the homeowner we disagree with the assessment of the circumstances. In regard to the observation of the foam pulling away from the beams and block: The shrinking of foam was caused by voids of blowing agent in the tank during the manufacturing process. This low-pressure foam is manufactured in Froth Pak tanks, which we have used successfully for many years. Our manufacturer was consulted and helped determine the cause of the foam shrinking which was a chemical imbalance in their manufacturing process that created a condition where the foam would shrink or "pull" several days after install. This was present in only small portions of the overall install and would appear intermittently in a small percent of projects where this product was installed. The foam itself was determined to be of proper makeup and effectiveness. The shrinking was related to a specific chemical agent that expands the foam as applied and did not affect the foam's integrity. When this condition was noticed the work was re-foamed with a high-pressure foam, going over and above to make sure there were no additional chances for foam issues. The homeowner was offered the manufacturer technical representatives cell phone number for verification and was told this person would also fly in to visit her site and discuss with her personally. Its unfortunate this product issue presented itself on this project. Our supervisors and staff made numerous trips to the house to address any and all questions that arose. Regarding the point about our company not addressing HVAC issues: Our installers are trained to install insulation and aren't qualified to assess the condition and function of an HVAC system. The homeowner believes this to be an oversight. To be of assistance, the installer team tried to go over and above by completing the install of a dryer vent at the homeowner's request. Delmarva was requested to seal the vents as there were large gaps with them sitting flush with the house. The vents were badly bent and damaged and the only way to seal them without full replacement was to foam them to cut off the air leakage. This is certainly not recommended as a finished product, which was explained to the homeowner. We were later accused of stealing the vent, which was proven false. These issues were addressed directly on numerous occasions on site visits. The homeowner appears to have an expectation that all of this "non contract" work was the responsibility of Delmarva Insulation. After several attempts to resolve these issues as detailed above the homeowner was offered a generous discount in an effort to bring closure to a project without litigation for collections. Many months later we scheduled a meeting with the homeowner and our site supervisor to inspect the install again. The agreement that was if all contract work was satisfactory and proper that the homeowner would pay the remaining invoice amount. Soon after that meeting we received payment. We appreciate this feedback and feel confident this assessment of the project demonstrates our commitment to standing behind our work."

On referral from my next door neighbor, I met with sales rep, Shane Burdette of Delmarva Insulation. Shane was truly courteous, professional and happily took his time answering all my questions. Both teams of staff that executed the work called ahead to alert us to their arrival time. They were prompt, professional, fast and left our home very clean. The staff performed all the work that was contracted and I can without any hesitation give a glowing referral of the great work they did on our house. After the work was completed, on the first night with temperatures dropping, my thermostat was set at 50 degrees, the indoor temperature registered 65 and the outdoor temps registered 42!...Needless to say we were ecstatic and have been very comfortable since...We feel the reasonable cost of the whole job is already providing us a great return.

Everything turned out ok. The customer service was terrible. The Salesman was not very professional and had to send him emails a few times to get additional quotes and received nothing. I would not use them again.

The fifth fuel is more interested in getting payment for the work then seeing that is is done quickly and properly.  Once the work is done, they see no reason to do an inspection to make sure the job is done properly.  I had to refuse payment until a final inspection was done.  When that inspection was done, it was discovered that the job had not been done properly.  The trenches had to be redone and one sump pump had never been plugged in.  They sent a crew to redo the work without making an appointment, so that we were not  aware that they were coming and were not at home. The crew did not secure the back yard and our dog got out.   When I demanded that another inspection be made, they tried to sue me for payment before that inspection was made.  They do not do follow up inspections at anytime after installation without charging for them.  There is a hazy guarantee if you are willing to pay them to come back and inspect the work or if you happen to find something wrong, but how would you know?    BUYER BEWARE!!!!!

"We are very sorry for your experience working with our company and the lack of response from your representative. Your experience illustrated a lack of communication between the sales team and our accounting department. It is not our practice to demand payment before a project is complete although your experience demonstrated the opposite. We have enhanced our internal communication systems to prevent this from happening in the future, and the company representative is no longer with our team. Again we apologize for your experience with our company. We are happy to speak directly with you should you have additional concerns."

The Fifth Fuel performed two tests in my home for the Energy Star rating as required by my contract with Gemcraft Homes.  I was advised by the representatives of The Fifth Fuel that of the two tests that were performed, one did extremely well, and the other failed.  I was advised that representatives from The Fifth Fuel and All Shore Heating/AC would be returning to attempt to obtain a passing test.
After several months and numerous inquiries with Gemcraft Homes, no one has returned to address the failed test.  I contacted The Fifth Fuel to obtain the results of the failed test (which no one will provide me) and it was explained to me that "I was not their customer, Gemcraft Homes was their customer."  The Fifth Fuel refuses to provide me with the results of the test which was included in the sales price of my home.
I would advise anyone who is looking to test the energy efficiency of their home to look elsewhere.  I would not recommend this organization to anyone.

Response from Delmarva Insulation
"We are sorry we were not able to release the report. Based on our relationship with your home builder, our testing results and reports are sent to your builder from whom you can request that information."

It was wonderful. We were having some mold issues - smelly towels, mold in the shower, etc. We'd spent some money here and there trying to fix the problem. Eventually, I got 4 or 5 bids which ranged in price by thousands. I was so depressed by the prices I was getting & the different fixes recommended. I called a contractor in the area & he told me that it was now code in DE to seal off crawlspace & well worth the money. He gave me the name of this company.
They were less than half the price for the encapsulation compared to other estimates & the mold remediation was very reasonable. In three days they sealed off the crawl space. Our mold has stopped in the shower, the towels don't smell. We were so thrilled that we did the same thing in a rental property, which took a little more work because of free standing water. They didn't try to sell us things we didn't need. Other companies wanted to sell us big dehumidifiers that we didn't need and are very expensive to run.
They were just excellent! The owner is well known for this type of work & is very easy to work with. He answered all my questions & told me that if I had any issues to let him know & he'd do what he could to help. He's been very responsive.
