They did serious damage to my almost-new TV. When it turned on, there were horizontal and vertical lines, along with an area of damaged pixels near the corner where a piece of the bezel was chipped off. But at times it did not even turn on. All attempts to get some compensation were unsuccessful. Didn't return phone calls, hung up on me when I said "**** TV".

I hired this company to move my 1-bedroom apartment to a 2-bedroom apartment within the same apartment complex. Both apartments were on the 3rd floor. The manager Ed estimated 3-4 hours for the move at a rate of $175/hr. The move ended up taking 5 hours and costing me more than $1000. I have moved a number of times, from and to 3rd floor apartments, and this company was definitely on the slower, less careful side. I would not recommend them in general and especially to single women moving by themselves because I was disrespected a number of times mostly by the manager Ed. My issues with my move echo many of those expressed here. One mover (whose name I don’t remember) moved all of the boxes and also a good amount of the furniture. The other two movers, Theo (the boss) and Hector, were less active during the move. Theo and Hector were arguing with each other and spent too much time just standing in the truck. In previous moves, one or more employees were dismantling furniture at the same time as other employees were carrying boxes. That didn’t happen here. During the move, I commented to Theo that it seemed to be going slowly, and he indicated that there was some confusion among the crew. After this, Hector and Theo started helping more, but the move didn’t seem to speed up much, and they stopped helping after a couple of trips. Because of COVID, before I booked the move, I asked the manager Ed what kind of precautions the movers would be taking. I am a healthcare worker currently working in the hospitals with COVID patients. Ed said that the movers would have masks and gloves. However, on the day, the movers didn’t have gloves, and they had bandanas instead of masks (which was fine with me). My issue was that the movers did not keep the masks on while inside my old or new apartments despite me asking them to do so multiple times, including when they entered my old apartment for the first time. Later, while speaking with the manager Ed about this, he said that my concerns were “ridiculous” and “immature” and then he started to tell me about the “real world” and how it was hard to wear a mask while carrying furniture. I acknowledged this and said that I didn’t mind if they took the masks off outdoors. I just wanted them to wear them indoors, where we were in close quarters with less ability to social distance. Ed seemed to take this point, but then he became evasive, saying that he didn’t “promise” that the movers would wear masks and gloves. However, Ed DID say that they were going to wear masks and gloves. It was disrespectful and evasive for Ed to sidestep using this “promise” excuse rather than taking responsibility for saying that the movers would wear masks/bandanas and then the movers not wearing masks/bandanas. Clearly, I had made my point because Ed then said that he was going to emphasize to his crews that they wear masks, but Ed then doubled back, telling me that it wasn’t “because of you.” The level of disrespect by Ed as well as the slowness and carelessness of the movers makes me wonder why this company has an A+ rating with BBB. Perhaps Ed is able to intimidate enough customers into not speaking up? Yet another insult, Ed told me that I was “one of those people who will never be satisfied.” Disrespectful, insulting, and unnecessary. The company did give me a refund for 1 hour because the movers overcharged me by a half hour and because the movers actually left my old apartment (without telling me they were leaving) and headed to my new apartment without clearing out all of the stuff from my old apartment. After the load in, the movers then had to double back in order to pick up all of the things from the old apartment and bring them to the new apartment. I don’t think that I would have ended up posting this bad review if it hadn’t been for the rude and nasty treatment by Ed. I do appreciate that the company is giving me some money back for overcharging me and for leaving some of my belongings in my old apartment (thank you to employee Sandy, who was excellent to work with). Another insult, towards the end of our phone call, Ed accused me of lying about my experience. I brought up the other bad reviews of the company as evidence that there’s a pattern of problems, and Ed said that the other reviewers were people who, like me, didn’t get what they wanted. I have to agree. I wanted a good move by an honest company, and I didn’t get it. So, here I am. I should also warn you that they start the timing of the move from the moment the movers leave the warehouse, which I’ve never experienced before. So, I paid for an extra 15 minutes. Ed did not tell me about this when I set up the move.

It was the worst move I've ever experienced. A crew of 4 showed up. One with experience and 3 without. They scraped and chipped much of our wooden furniture by moving it on hand-trucks without padding. They gashed walls and trim on both ends of our move. They put boxes clearly marked "Kitchen - Fragile" upside down in the garage. It was pretty obvious some of them could not read because many other boxes were not placed where they were marked to go. A caddy with snack trays was placed upside down in the garage. No harm done there but it speaks volumes about their professionalism. There was a lot of standing around by the 3 inexperienced movers waiting for direction from the one experience mover who worked very hard.

We were very pleased with the level of service from Delaware Moving And Storage during our move from Delaware to Florida. We used their storage service when we staged our home (pre-sale), and the service was also excellent for this phase. There was no hard sell from the agent (Eddie), and Warren (foreman) made sure we knew what to expect each step of the way. The entire crew was friendly and helpful.

It was the worst move we have ever had, with the most unprofessional follow up imaginable. After numerous unreturned phone calls, our apartment building manager called them. Only then, did they get in touch with me. Every complaint I made was not believed, the owner went back to his men who lied about everything. Then he talked to the building staff here who saw this moving team taking constant breaks, etc. They were given the exclusive use of one service elevator for the move, yet they told their boss that they had no dedicated elevator. When the owner finally came to see our damaged furniture, he suggested I let his repairman (who had no experience with fine furniture & antiques) "take a crack at it first, and if he can't fix it, we'll find a restorer". Why would any one accept that offer? You would think that moving down 2 floors in the same building would be simple, but these movers damaged more things than had been damaged in all our previous moves combined. They did a horrible job, and the follow-up was unfair & unprofessional. Stay away!

During the move a serious scratch occurred in the dining room table. Repeated calls to the company finally had someone from the company come for what we thought would be the repair. The person examined the damage and said he would tell another individual who we thought would do the repair about the situation. When we waited nearly 3 weeks we again called the company and were told we needed to get our own estimate of the damage to get it fixed. After much debate they gave us three companies to contact. We felt they should be the ones to arrange for repairs. If the had properly covered the table with protection covers the damage would never have occurred. As of this date (04/7/2017), the table is still not repaired.

We have moved 9 or 10 times over the past 26 years. This was, by far, the worst & most unprofessional move we have ever had. A few pieces of antique furniture were scratched or broken, as were other pieces of furniture. The silk interiors of a number of lampshades were ripped to shreds. The 3 movers disappeared about every half-hour or so. They failed to move our clothing, and when asked why they swore I told them not to touch my clothes. They quit working before the job was done, leaving all our clothing, lamps, and some other odds & ends in the other apartment. When I called many times to complain my voicemail messages went unanswered. Our building had paid for the move because our apartment had not been ready when our lease started. It was not until the building manager called that anyone f on Delaware Moving and Storage called me. The owner of the business did not believe me, and continually defended his workers. When he checked out my story with our building's staff, he discovered his employees had lied to him about everything. Even then, he gave us a hard time about the repairs. He wanted one of his employees "to take a crack at" fixing our 200-year-old furniture. Our lampshades were never fixed, his employee fixed our regular, non-antique furniture, and we found a very reasonably priced restorer whom we paid, and Delaware Moving & Storage reimbursed us. The Delaware Moving and Storage Movers were terrible, their Sales Manager Ed did not return any of my phone calls, and the owner made it clear that he did not believe what I told him (as if I could have made this stuff up). The three Movers were 3 healthy-looking young guys, and it took them longer to move our furniture 2 floors down than it took the other Movers to unload and move it in from a truck on the street! They are the worst.

I chose to use DE Moving & Storage based on their top ratings & their willingness to provide insurance coverage. If you value the condition of your appliances, I would highly recommend using another company. There were 2 separate crews that were assigned for moving my belongings from my home into my new home. While there are several examples of what I would not consider professional moving & care, the one that I could not overlook is the condition of my appliances. When delivered my less than 6 month stainless steel stove had the bottom door hanging off it. Since this damage was obvious, I was able to identify it immediately & have the door fixed. Unfortunately with the stress of the move & finding out my father was diagnosed with cancer & had to start chemo immediately I did not inspect the dishwasher thoroughly. When I finally was able to have my plumber install my stainless steel dishwasher they discovered that the entire top of the appliance was caved in. The company has now refused to consider the claim even though the dishwasher was in perfect working condition prior to the move. While I take full responsibility in not having identified the appliance issue in a timely manner, I had extenuating circumstances that were not taken into consideration & had over half of my appliances delivered damaged.

Well, the movers showed up.  I reviewed with them everything, and they immediately balked at disassembling the bookcase (Ikea), complaining that Ikea furniture would not withstand disassembly and reassembly.  So that ended up getting left behind.  In addition the wardrobe carrier I asked for was not included.  As a result I had to start stuffing clothing into suitcases.  A lamp I told them to leave behind nearly got transported (it didn't have a sticker on it).
When I asked the movers when they'd drop off, they informed me that they would be dropping off the VERY SAME DAY instead of the next day.  Naturally I was upset at that change in plans, since I had other arrangements based on the assumption delivery would be the next day.  But I could adapt.
The movers left ahead of me  so I had to drive like a maniac down I-95, I thought, to catch up with them.  Apparently they stopped for lunch (was not communicated to me that they would--not that I minded, I didn't get a chance to eat).
The movers arrived with my things;  the distances I communicated to the estimator seem to have been fouled up when transmitted to the movers.  (30 paces became 30 feet).  They brought everything in, and the sofa that wouldn't fit in the elevator was carried up 3 flights of stairs. They didn't end up leaving until 8:30 pm (and they walked away with my keys, so I had to call them to bring those back).  It was a very long day for everyone that didn't have to be.
In the end, all my stuff made it, and as far as I can tell, nothing got broken.  But the breakdown in communication was very, very, very troubling.
Response from Delaware Moving and Storage Inc
"Good Evening (Removed member name), I wanted to start off by saying thank you for your business. I am the General Sales Manager here ,and I had no idea that you were not happy with you move. Didn't receive any call from you stating that you were unhappy, or emails. If I may, I would like to address a few of your points in your post. I spoke with Kathy your estimator, and she was also surprised that you were unhappy with the move. Typically we tell all customer that we do NOT disassemble ,or reassemble Ikea furniture, this was communicated to you by Kathy at the time of your estimate, and in her email to you. The reason is that is typically Ikea is cheap furniture that you glue ,put together, and typically can not be disassembled. The 2 pieces were to big to get out of your home ,so they had to be left behind. Kathy told you that if you wanted us to try to disassemble the Ikea furniture ,we would NOT be responsible for any damages. We originally scheduled your move to load on day one and deliver the next day. Bev who has worked for our company for 15 Plus years and is one of our top drivers, was your lead Driver. Once she did an inventory of your goods and started loading the truck, she thought that you would be ok with us doing everything in one day, thinking she was helping you ,and doing you a favor to get you in your new home quicker. You accepted with out any negative response ,and agreed that we could load and deliver all in one day. We always ask the customer first before any changes to move strategies. Bev stated that you seemed to be happy, and relieved that we could move you in one day. Not sure if there was a miss understanding, or a miss communication, but you did not complain to Bev our driver. The wardrobe we did forget to get those on the truck, so our sincere apologies for that. We were letting you use those for FREE so you did not get charged for the wardrobes. It seems we did cause you inconvenience and again our apologies for that. DMS typically charges long walks like all other movers in the industry. I believe you did not have your actual unit that you were moving into until the day before your move, so we had to guess on distance from our truck to your elevator. So as far as I can see this is a legitimate charge for your move. Your sofa did not fit into the elevator so my movers did walk 3 flights of narrow steps to get your sofa to your unit. Typically the moving industry does charge for this service, walking up flights of stairs, but we did not charge you anything extra. (Removed member name) I would be happy to talk with you about your move, and I wish I had an opportunity to speak with you before you took your unhappiness to Angies list. Maybe ,I could have explained our position on how we handles your move and addressed your complaints. Again we are sorry everything didn't go as you planned, and wish you the best at your new residence. Please feel free to call me anytime to talk. Thank you Sir, and have a wonderful day. Sincerely, Eddie Kulesza General Sales Manager Delaware Moving & Storage Wheaton World Wide Moving O=(302)-322-0311 C=(302)-584-6518."

My overall experience with Delaware Moving & Storage was AMAZING!  Prior to moving I scheduled and received many estimates with several moving companies in my area, All the estimates were roughly within each other as far as time but the rates varied, Delaware Moving & Storage's rate wasn't the cheapest of all but certainly wasn't the most expensive. I chose them because their salesman was prompt and very knowledgeable. He eased my worries and took the time to explain exactly how the job needed to be performed and gave me ideas on things I could do to keep my costs down. I personally planned to much more packing and preparation than I originally told my salesman due to a unexpected family emergency so I called and informed them. The salesman came back out again (no charge) to see what was needed to be completely ready on the day of my move, again he was very professional and understanding. Because I had to have additional services provided it raised the cost of my original estimate but It was well worth it! On move day a huge truck and 3 men showed up bright and early and introduced themselves.. Soon after they began putting protection on the floor and railings and got right to work emptying my house. I was impressed at how fast they moved and at how much care they put into the whole process. These guys were like machines..lol I was actually afraid to meet them prior to them arriving (don't ask me why) but they changed that almost instantly. They cracked jokes all day and made the entire experience very pleasant while remaining professional at the same time. I was extremely pleased. My estimate was for 8-10 hours and it ended up taking 10.5 but I'm sure that's because of the added packing the crew ended up having to do that wasn't part of the plan. In the end i was completely satisfied with the communication and service i was provided and paid for. I will be more than willing to recommend their service to anyone I know that needs any type of moving service in the future A+
