In southern MD, Waste Management costs over $50/month for twice-weekly trash pickup.  Often, pickup days would go by without the trash ever being collected.  During one time period, five consecutive pickups were missed.  All I got was a robo-call apology.  No refunds on the bill, ever. 
I got tired of them and hired a new company (Evergreen) that does it a lot more cheaply.   Unfortunately, Waste Management doesn't seem to be taking "no" for an answer, and has continued to try to bill me for services after my (documented) cutoff date with them.  They also never came and got their stupid green trash bin.
If you live in southern MD, go with Evergreen.  They have some issues too, but they are not nearly as bad as Waste Management.

Overall, they did a good job of picking up our trash.  They came reliably and, on occasion, were flexible with taking large items that didn't fit in our bin.  They offered additional services - like bags you could purchase to mail back recyclable lightbulbs or batteries.   On the down side, they came late in the afternoon, so our trash bin was on the street all day (though someone has to have an afternoon pickup).  Once I called other vendors, I found their pricing on the high side, which was ultimately why we switched.  Their customer service was always professional and responsive.   Once we ended service, we had a hard time getting their toter picked up - which was ultimately resolved using Angie's Complaint Resolution Process.

It is nice that they pick up the trash twice a week.  It is specifically helpful in the fall for the leaves to be taken away twice a week.  But they are a little too expensive.  Recently they have come up with a new fee which is another 2.1% add on.  They already charge an administrative fee for sending the bill.  I have considered going to a different contractor.  They have subcontracted the trash collection to another company in this neighborhood.  Some of the people in the neighborhood has gotten rid of Waste Management and gone to the other company.  They do a good job.  They show up when they are supposed to.

They are a national chain and have locations everywhere. We have never had any problems with them except sometimes they don't put the dumpster back where it is supposed to go; or they run into one of the gated dumpster enclosures and bend the gate out. But it is not like an every trash pickup occurrence; it is a rare thing when that happens. I will use them again in the future.
