Venus Construction

We have used Venus Construction and Remodeling for 2 major projects at our DC house (build in the late 20s). Mahyar's vision, craftsmanship, and personal touches are unlike anyone else in the business. He loves a challenge where he needs to think about how to bring out the old features in properties with modern updates to make the changes look timeless. He has done so many things at our house including - house extension and bump up on the back of the house, full kitchen gut, removing load berring walls, adding new bathrooms and remodeling existing, adding a basement entry, completely overhauling our backyard into an oasis with hardscaping, raised flower beds, turf, and adding a screened in porch. Working with Venus Construction and Remodeling has been a real pleasure. From the very beginning I had high expectations for this company, especially the owner, Mayhar Mahvi, because I saw him on "This Old House" and was fascinated with his work. When Mr. Mahvi visited the house I wanted gutted, he was not overwhelmed with the project and took it all in stride. He asked questions to make sure he understood my vision, yet made me aware of issues that might be problematic during the construction phase. It's been about two years since his company started working on my house and it is looking amazing! Please note, there was a delay in construction due to financial issues on my part, but Mr. Mahvi was always ready to proceed. This is the first time I have ever gutted a house and Mr. Mahvi was very patient with me, explaining central heating/AC, plumbing and electrical systems, even going with me to Lowe's to help me pick out tile and helping me by buying surplus building materials from auctions. Even though this has been a substantial project, I have never been happier with a choice I've made. Mr. Mahvi brings experience, intelligence and innovation to the project site that is truly invaluable.

Very polite; the only nice thing I can report. Work took around 5 months to complete. Quality of work was average at best; cut many corners. Rarely kept any promise (I'll be here tomorrow...rarely showed up). His employees more likely to show up, if anybody showed up at all. To be fair, overall rating maybe a C-
