As with so many contractors on Angies list, the salesperson who comes round, is NOT the person who who does the work. He just farms it out to some sub-contractors - so it might just be easier to hire them direct.
"I am sorry that the client was not happy with the outcome for several reasons. The client requested additional work be done, and the work was done hourly, per our agreement. Clients often have different expectations on how long a task will/should take, but this client seemed to be experienced with home improvement work (he works on his own house from time to time). I did not quote an estimate of how long the HOURLY work would take. The hourly rate for such work is stated in my contract. I will would like to point out that I am a General Contractor. I hire subcontractors to perform skilled construction work for my company. Most professional Home Improvement companies rely on subcontractors for a decent percentage of their work. A home owner can always save money by hiring a plumber, electrician, or roofer directly. The reason people hire a General Contractor is so they don't have to manage all of those different tradespeople and all of the moving parts. Most people don't have the time, desire, or experience to manage construction projects, and hire a person like myself to do so."
"I have tried to reach this customer via email and telephone to address the construction and customer service issues. I have received no response. Until seeing this posting, I was unaware of any problem with the work we did at his house. The definite solution to this problem would have cost more than $5,000. We agreed to try the cheaper solution first. I am not happy to hear that the customer feels fleeced for his $1,500. Most all of my customers like dealing with me and this is how I grew my company. It was a friend of his that referred him to Sundance Contracting in the first place. I don't know what went wrong and when, but I am sorry to hear about this."
"There is a breakdown in communication somewhere. We did some interior work in relation damage caused by a roof/water intrusion issue. We did not do any roofing or other work to address the water intrusion issue, but did give input on how to fix it. I was never contracted or asked to perform such work either. The customer and I were discussing a replacement of his whole roof at the same time, so he might have been distracted. I have since tired to contact this customer for clarification, and had no response."
"There were problems and timeline issues with this job originating from both sides. I did have too many things going on at the time. When completion was near, the member offered that I give him a credit to finish the job of about $800-$1000, and that he could finish it up himself, since we both acknowledged that I had too many things going on to finish quickly. I took him up on it and gave him an additional $300 to $500 (it has been several years now) for his troubles. He had recently remodeled another bathroom in his house himself. I don't believe my company was even established at this point, and had a full time job at the time. It is true that I had recently bought a new house and was working on it at the same time. The member and his wife did have a second full bathroom in the basement to use while construction was going on. The member had done this second bathroom remodel himself, which enabled them to have one full bathroom to use during construction of their Master bathroom. The member and his wife were personal friends of my wife and I for several years. After moving out of state (about 5 months after this work was "done") they posted this report."
