Like many other DC homeowners, we purchased our row home “as-is” in July of this year. We knew that we would need some work done to fix what we believed to be “minor” water damage issues. Well, long story short, it turns out the entire back of our house was falling apart from a combination of water and termite damage and we needed all new plumbing. Hammer has been a silver lining in this otherwise trying time. Greg has worked with us over the past 2+ months to stick as closely to our budget as possible even in the wake of new and expensive discoveries that have popped up during the remodel. Greg’s team is professional and respectful. They took our concerns seriously, including the one about keeping our two cats safe from the construction work. Although it is unfortunate that we needed the extent of work done that we did, we are very glad we chose Hammer to help us. Greg had to coordinate numerous different trades because of our extensive list of repairs, and we felt confident in both his ability to do so and the ability in the different contractors he worked with along the way. We look forward to working with Greg and Hammer in the future, hopefully on cosmetic rather than structural work!

Hammer renovated two bathrooms in our house. These were full renovations, including new floors, subfloors, and some plumbing. It was a bigger project than just a 'pull and replace' and the largest project that we have done so far. We were remodeling newbies so we appreciated the fact that Hammer could walk us through the process. Hammer helped us with the design and the selection of fixtures; documenting every step. We are very happy with the finished product, especially when I compare our bathrooms with other newly renovated bathrooms. Greg Buitrago, Jorge Castellanos and the rest of the Hammer team made sure we understood all our choices, and accommodated our schedule during the renovations. There were no bad surprises or underestimated costs. Even though we did not have a complete vision of our final product, Andres, the design expert took our ideas and preferences and created beautifully designed rooms.
We were so pleased with the bathrooms, we hired Hammer to paint the kitchen and add window casements and baseboards. The weekend project made our kitchen look new.

I would highly recommend Hammer. The lower level looks much better than it did before and I worry less about water entering the basement. Our master bathroom is transformed; what felt to be a small, cluttered room now feels roomy. Most importantly, Hammer is the full package: high quality, responsive, punctual, professional and, when there is an issue, they address it fairly.

Hammer Contractors remodeled both of the bathrooms in 2012. I was happy about the job. I am more impressed that they
still stop by to fix the bath door issue, without any charge! To me, the service after job done is more important.

Hammer contractors just finished two projects at our home – a new deck and kitchen update project (new kitchen island, molding on existing cabinets). We couldn’t be more satisfied with our experience. Their professionalism, know-how, communication, and technology are second to none. They truly did go the extra mile in completing our projects, doing whatever they could to make sure we were completely satisfied. We completed a number of projects on our home improvement list this time around, but will certainly be coming back to hammer when we’re ready for our next project.

We recently were looking to build an addition to our single family home to build an in-law suite. After multiple meetings, we decided on Hammer Contractors for this addition. Hammer Contractors were very professional and patient with our multiple questions and needs. Everyone we worked with were friendly, knowledgeable and an expert in the field. We worked with their design specialist to create the best design with the space available. The account/sales manager was very patient and provided all details and help needed on our project. The project manager communicated with us the entire time and ensured the project stayed on track as best as possible. The craftsmanship was top notch and everything was done as described in our plan. We finished the project and our in-laws have moved in and started using the space with great happiness. For our next project, we will only need to call one company, Hammer Contractors for any and all needs with our home.

Throughout the entire process, the designer Andres, Greg and Jorge were a pleasure to work with. Initially, there were a couple back and forth meetings where the scope of work and materials were hashed out. Once agreed upon, the cost remained the same throughout the entire process with no hidden or discovered expenses. The timeline was followed nearly to a tee despite some challenges with the weather. At the time of the renovation, I had another contractor renovating my master bathroom. Comparing the two contractors were like night and day. Hammer's guys would show up first thing in the morning and work full days. They were always very polite and accommodating to my family as we were living through the renovation and constantly checking on the progress. Overall, the project finished on budget and on time and everyone associated with Hammer was a pleasure to work with. I would definitely work with Hammer again and have already recommended them to neighbors. From day one and throughout the entire process, I was very impressed with Hammer's professionalism and communication and am extremely pleased with the quality of the work.

I wanted to replace the carpet on the main floor with hardwood and renovate the closets in all the bedrooms to be able to use the closet space more efficiently. Since I've used Hammer twice since spring of 2012 to renovate my kitchen, bathrooms, and replace my roof to my satisfaction, I asked Greg to come back to work on this new project. Greg was very patient and realistic on advising me on the scope of my project, and Diego, the designer, was very helpful with sound ideas on the closet system and the colors of paints for the bedrooms. In fact, it was a pleasant experience planning with them on the project, and I really enjoyed their professionalism and expertise. Diego had a very good sense on recommending colors of paints to match my preference and met with me at The Container Store to work with their designer. After the planning sessions, I was able to see the designs by logging into my account at their website and keep track on the progress of the work and budget as well as communicating with them. Greg and Jorge, the project manager, were always responsive to my emails and phone calls. Even though the completion of the project was delayed a bit due to various situations they encountered while demolishing old flooring and prepping the walls, the result is an exquisite hardwood flooring, the trendy newly painted walls and five beautiful and highly efficient and convenient closets. The high quality of work that Hammer performed has always been what I value the most, and they've never failed me. Their workers were also honest, clean, and responsible. I knew I could trust them even when I was at work. All in all, I would not hesitate to recommend Hammer to my friends and will definitely use them again in the future.

We were victims of Hurricane Sandy's wrath. Greg Buittrago was very prompt in giving us an estimate. He didn't hesitate to call the insurance company to work out the estimate.Everything went as planned. They did an extremely professional job. The crew came in did the work and cleaned up behind themselves. My basement looks like a model home job.

Our experience with Hammer was great. All our existing cabinets and appliances were pulled out and new ones were installed including a new section of cabinetry and back splash. New recessed lighting was also installed. I feel it was a very good value. I loved being able to work with a designer to make choices about elements such as the back splash, handles for cabinetry and paint colors. I already had an idea of what the cabinetry should look like and Greg helped me select a lower cost option. We preferred to purchase our own appliances.
There were a couple of glitches along the way but the team took care of these right away. I liked the team of workers, who were polite and always left the space in good shape each day. One important aspect for me was good communication and Greg and team were very quick to respond to questions.
We receive a lot of compliments on our new kitchen and enjoy the new space!

The company responded quickly to my request for an estimate and went over the different options of shingles patiently with me. The work to replace the roof was done at a weekend when I was away. When I came home, I really enjoyed the color or my new roof, and I also liked that my yard was quite clean with only some tiny remnants remained.

My family and I highly valued the work that the team had performed. We were also extremely impressed by how responsible the company was. After realizing that there was a problem with the glass door of the shower in the master bath, the project manager raised his concern, apologized for the design problem, and proposed effective ways to remedy the problem at the company's cost. Now we have a beautiful kitchen and bathrooms that we fully enjoy. Our friends also were amazed by the quality of the job done.

Completely happy with finished work; we asked for expedited schedule and the entire work was done ahead of time. All employees of the company and any contractors hired to do the specialty work were extremely skilled in their craft, friendly and respectful of our property. At the end of the project, the site was beautifully cleaned up before final inspection. Would (and have) recommend this company to anyone considering home remodeling.
