Colette was amazing and secured our 1928 doors back on and fixed the swing. I am going to have her back to fix my door knobs and old mortise locks.

Colette transformed our original 1940 door locks.  She had some antique parts and gave me many choices.  Very please with the experience.

Colette is amazing.  Very professional, and meticulous.  She removed broken handsets, drilled holes to replace with Baldwin hardware and deadbolts.  Everything lined up perfectly,  no mess.  She replaced the mail slot and even got it level where the previous one was not.  Brought drop cloth, all tools in her well equipped truck and even vacuumed when work was completed.  She recommended hardware suppliers for some problem doors.  She is very knowledgeable. I used her 18 years ago and she was great then too.
She can key all locks the same too.
I will definitely call her again.

I had a door that wouldn't operate properly, several keys that didn't work due to copying copies several times plus several other door and lock issues.  Colette quickly assessed all of these and performed rekeying of all of my various  locks on several doors, plus she recommended and made an appointment for her two carpenters to fix my front door.

Colette's carpenters with Door Detail were extraordinarily capable and performed some additional work around my home -  other doors, antique furniture repair, etc. Again ...  all for a rate that reflected their excellent work.

I was extremely satisfied with the results.  After several years of average service by other locksmiths and door companies, I was more than pleasantly surprised at the expertise, professionalism and quality of work performed by Colette at Door Detail.

I thought that I was facing nothing less than the need to replace two large entry doors (dating from original building construction: 1968). I had suffered with the inconvenience of the badly-operating main entry doors for years -- dreading the cost of replacement -- but the situation had deteriorated beyond the limits of my patience. The oversized, double doors were badly misaligned and sagging from the hinges The door closure was not functioning.  Colette from  Doordetail arrived on time, promptly diagnosed the problems, and suggested adjusting the hinges, repositioning door hardware to redistribute the load, and replacing the knob and dead bolt.  She even rekeyed the new lock to match an existing key that serviced my favorite alternate entry door.  I was particularly impressed that although some kind of complicated looking jig was required for the positioning and drilling for the new hardware, Colette had the necessary equipment available in her apparently well-stocked service van.  I now have an entry that I''m proud of.  Friends have noted the improvement.

I had used Door Detail once previously to fix a jammed front door lock. Colette seemed very professional and I was  pleased to use a woman-owned business.  I called her again when I wanted to replace some old doorknobs (original in my 100 year old house) and install locks in two bathroom doors.  She sold me very expensive Baldwin hardware, which are very nice and sturdy, and she convinced me that she had to order those because they were the only type that would fit the old doors.  It took her a very long time to get  parts and re-finish existing parts, and when they arrived, some of them were finished wrong. She had to come back several times to complete a job that does not seem very complicated.  The work was finally finished several months ago, and everything that Colette installed is now misaligned or falling apart. The front door lock is loose and cannot be tightened with screws. The bathroom door locks are tricky to close and don't seem to catch when the door is shut unless pulled very  tightly closed.  One of the hinges is coming loose and virtually all the tiny screws in the plates behind the doorknob plates are falling out or missing--they seem to have been forced in at awkward angles.  I will have to call another locksmith to do much of the work over.

Where to start - first, we had made a mistake by asking a general handyman to fix our door handle, because it was broken and we could no longer get in our front door.  He did a really lousy job so that the dead bolt lock did not match up with the holes in the door.  You could literally look out the front door through the gap.  And he also messed up the door jam - couldn't get the strike plate to line up so just took it off.  (And all of this took him four hours.)

Fortunately for us, Colette was available to help us.  We called her on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend.  She came out the Tuesday after Labor Day at 9:00 - exactly as planned.  She was here for only an hour and fixed everything perfectly.  She replaced the dead bolt so that it lined up with the hole in the door, installed a strike plate that was even more secure than the one we had before. And, as a bonus, and just because it was an easy fix, she fixed the hinge of the door so that our door swings open and shut without getting stuck.  She was prompt, professional, and cheap - she was there for less than an hour and charged $125.

We hired door detail to re-key our home after moving in and to install a new interior lock on our basement door. Collette promptly made an appointment, showed up on time, and completed the work on time. She was professional and easy to deal with during the visit. The front door, which she re-keyed and the new basement door lock work great. However, since she re-keyed the back door lock (Schlage deadbolt) we have been having various problems with it. First, we couldn't get into the house. The key wouldn't work from the outside. We went around the house entered from the front and were able to unlock the door from the inside with the key, however when we did that the key wouldn't come out of the lock on the inside. We called Collette and although it took a couple of days to return the call (perhaps she does return calls over the weekend?) she did come promptly on Monday or Tuesday morning to repair the problem and did not charge us, which seemed only fair since the problem emerged immediately after having the lock re-keyed. That was great, we were satisfied.

Then a new problem emerged. The door would not stay locked from the outside when you turn the key to remove it (works fine when locking from the inside). I called her to let her know about the problem and, although it took a few days she eventually did return my call and came over to check out the problem. She said the problem was that the latch was broken and she replaced it without charging me. Unfortunately, it did not solve the problem. I called her back to let her know and ask what she thought the problem might be she insisted that she did not cause the problem and the problem was that it was a "crappy" lock. When I asked her if she could think of a reason why we did not have any problem before the lock was re-keyed she said the same thing.

One day later, we hired another highly rated Angie's List locksmith to come look at the problem. It took him 5 minutes to solve the issue. He said when the lock was reinstalled it wasn't aligned properly. He said it wasn't a problem of a "crappy" lock, but of a "crappy locksmith."  

They were very prompt and professional. They did the work over a period of a year from the beginning of 2010 to the end of 2010. I would use them again in the future if necessary.

Colette was awesome. Prompt, efficient, clearly knows her stuff. One of the doors wasn't hung straight so she fixed and didn't charge me. I would recommend this company without any reservation.
