We used DC Floors. He's a local flooring company. I think that's the name of the company right here in Tacoma but they're in the D.C. part. They did a really good job. My husband said he thought the price is high but the work was well done and we're happy with it. They're local so I've seen their sign as I have driven by it so I thought I'd give it a try. The guy we did sign is a very good salesman, personable and easy to talk to about what we wanted. My husband agreed even though he thought it was too high just so we can get it completed. We purchased the already finished oak. It was a quarter inch oak floor. Scheduling was fine. It took longer than they thought it would but they came promptly the next day to work. We had a lot of dust after the sanding. We plan to use them again. We have some other floors that need work. I will tell people that they did a really good job but price wise, it might be on the expensive side. I don't really know. They should check it out.

DC Floors did very good quality work on the floor but I believe their business practice was unprofessional--they essentially lucked out big time at my naivete and considerable expense. The 450 square foot first floor in my 1908 rowhouse was fairly water damaged, worn, dirty, cigarette burned, and missing portions outright in places (about 20 sq ft worth). I obtained estimates from two other companies who would intall a new floor throughout. I was wanting a third estimate when I contacted DC Floors. DC Floors missed their initial appointment so I ended up having to reschedule at a less convenient time to get the estimate I still wanted.
Upon inspection, the DC Floors representative (owner, partner, or similar) convincingly observed that the parquet floor could be resurrected.  Pressed to meet a deadline, this new suggestion is what I decided to do. But it also opened the door for what turned out to be a refinishing job relatively well done but, in hindsight, one which was extremely overpriced--I just didn't know any better and I trusted DC Floors.  I wouldn't do that again.

The short of it is, DC Floors talked me into believing that the repairs were somewhat extensive but achievable (but still less expensive than a new floor, which they were). But in eventually observing what they actually had to do to make the repairs, it did not add up--they weren't that extensive. I later compared other similar jobs explained in AngiesList (this job prompted my joining) and theorized my price paid was too high. And I wouldn't have written this review until I had another reputable floor contractor confirm what he would have charged for the same work (about half).

Bottom line: DC Floors gambled by suggesting a somewhat complex repair (which wasn't so complex) and a really high price, and I bit. So this review is more favorable on the quality of work (the work crew was punctual and courteous) but in assessment of the business, I rate them poorly.  I would not recommend this company.

When they came to do the estimate they told me the stairs would be no problem whatsoever -- I asked this specifically because other vendors I talked to expressed hesitation about the steps.  I also asked if they could replace the bannister but I was told they don't do that.  The steps were a problem for them from the beginning, and in retrospect I should have let them do the floors only and brought in someone else for the steps.  Alas.  They ended up removing the bannister, despite their inital assertion that they couldn't and wouldn't, and when they did so, they never told me their plans had changed and didn't give me the option to upgrade the bannister as I had intended.  They had to come back a few times in the early weeks after the installation to correct some things with the steps -- the trim was weird, the grout/putty was uneven (and messy), minor stuff like that.  Then a few months later, one of the pieces of trim just fell off -- I fixed it with Gorilla Glue.  Then a few months after that, one of the steps was oddly loose.  Not just creaky, but bouncy.  They came and fixed it (no charge) -- but even that was a pain because they said they would do it one day (which requires someone to be home and miss a day of work) and then cancelled that day on the morning of and rescheduled for a few days later.  A few months after that ANOTHER step became lose and bouncy.  In addition, the rods attached to the bannister were very loose as a result of their shoddy workmanship after taking it all apart and (somewhat) putting oit all back together.  They had left the bannister rods loose after the initial job but back then I didn't feel like complaining, I just wanted the job complete.  However, now that they were coming back for the second (and hopefully final) time, i asked for that to be fixed as well.  Once again I made an appointment and once again they called me to cancel that appointment (this time they cancelled the day before, not the day of).  But they did come later that week and they did fix it (no charge).  That was a few hours ago.  And I just noticed that while it all seems to be fixed (the stair isn't bouncy, the bannister rods are tight), there is AN ENORMOUS NAIL STICKING STRAIGHT OUT OF THE BANNISTER!  I called to get the guy back to deal with it, allegedly they are coming back this afternoon.  Stay tuned.
On the good side:  They are friendly.  Family owned, and a local business.  They tolerated my dog.  They cleaned up after themselves.  I left them in my house unattended for hours at a time during the initial job and that was fine.  They came recommended by a friend who I love and trust so I assume they've done good work in the past.

The one deep regret we had in our expansive home renovation was that we hired DC Floors. We read some reviews that said they were belligerent, but we followed a contractor's recommendation instead. What a mistake. Not only did they pick fights with every contractor at the house (including the guy who referred them), but they fought among themselves, their workmanship was terrible, and there's no way they put on the three coats they said they did. That's not surprising, since they two separate members of their team threatened to walk off the job at different times. We had to hire another floor company (Carpet Palace of Bethesda) to fix some of their work, and that section of the floor looks 100 times more professional. (Plus they didn't yell at everybody.) And all this for a very routine job of sanding and coating floors. We were crazy to hire DC Floors, and you would be too.

I had a terrible experience with DC floors. First they dropped a guy off to do work and he didn't have the right instructions to install the wood flooring. Luckily, I was able to correct him before he started installing it in the wrong direction. Even then his English was so poor, he couldn't understand my instructions. When I returned home, I saw he had made made some really important mistakes. I scheduled to have him come back and three times they canceled on me before coming to address the matter. Secondly (and even more infuriatingly) I reduced the size of my project just after I had already paid them the deposit for a larger project. I gave them several days notice of this change, but after DC Floors finished the work, Ed Long Jr. (the owner, I believe) accused me of lying about why I changed my work plans (I explained I faced unexpected renovation expenses, which I did) and he suggested I wouldn't get any of my deposit back. I deposited about twice the market value of the job they did (based on the estimates other flooring companies produced for me), so I plan to take them to small claims court. I hope others heed my warning and avoid DC Floors.

They were very careful about doing things and tried to prevent a lot of dust. They were on time and I didn't mind them in my home.

DC Floors put the wrong finish on my hardwood floors, knicked a floorboard out of place, and scuffed my baseboards. As soon as I realized these errors, I called them to discuss how we would rectify the situation (mainly, the fact that my floors had the wrong finish). They checked their records and agreed that the wrong finish had been applied. I politely explained that movers were delivering my furniture in 4 days. After they failed to show up the next day, I called back, more frantic and explaining that I was getting nervous that this wasn't going to be fixed in time. The owner's son refused to speak to me and hung up on me. He called back several hours later and was incredibly arrogant - he agreed to send his crew out at the last possible moment to apply one coat of the correct finish. The floors look okay now (loose floorboard and knicked baseboards never got fixed), but the entire experience was terrible and the owner's son's behavior was very unprofessional. I would not recommend using this company.

Great! We get compliments on our floors every time someone walks in the house. The floors originally were stained a dark color, the estimator suggested leaving them their natural color, for which he could have charged an extra $1000. Since he was suggesting less work, I took his advice and am very happy we did. Note: The work was done before we moved in, so we can't speak to working around furniture, etc.

Ed, one of the owners of the company promised that the job would take one week. They were two days late in starting. They were extremely slow in getting organized. The demolition took them longer than they estimated. Ed promised to meet me on the job site. He was consistently late or sent someone else with no call to let me know he would not be coming. The job dragged on for four weeks. The bedroom floor was poorly done. It was bumpy. They tried to rectify it three times with not much improvement. The stain was not applied incorrectly leaving obvious difference of colors on the floor. When I asked them to resand the second bedroom, they refused. When I called the office with a punch list, Tony, one of the owners screamed at me and said that he would come up to apartment rip out all the floors and give me my money back. With that threat, I took them off the job and called three other floor companies who said that the job was done very poorly. Another company is finishing the job.

They were unreliable. They did a poor job on one of the floors and they didn't rectify the situation. They were verbally abusive on the phone as well. The quality of the work was poor. This job should have taken a week and we are on week 5.

They were friendly and professional, helped us to choose a color and finish, and they worked quickly. They paid great attention to detail, and our floors turned out beautifully. The final cost was slightly more than their initial estimate, but still within what I consider to be a reasonable price for the work done. Work was completed in 4 business days, and there was NO mess left behind.

D.C. FLOORS IS A GREAT COMPANY. TONY LONG CAME OUT TO MY HOUSE GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE AND BEGAN WORK IN 3 DAYS. HE ALSO WALKED AROUND MY HOUSE AND GAVE ME HELPFUL HINTS ON HOW TO PRESERVE MY ALREADY EXISTING WOOD FLOORS. THE WORKMEN WERE VERY NICE AND I TRUSTED THEM TO WORK IN THE HOUSE WHEN I WAS NOT THERE. THEY CLEANED UP COMPLETELY WHEN THEY WERE FINISHED. I WAS WORRIED ABOUT ALL THE DUST, BUT THEY TOOK CARE OF ALL THE DUST REMOVAL NOT ONLY FROM THE ROOM THEY WORKED IN BUT THE OTHER AREAS THAT GOT DUSTY. THEY HAVE WORKED ALL OVER MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND I GOT THEIR NAME FROM MY NEIGHBOR WHO ALSO USED THEM.
