From the moment I made the appointment I was impressed. I love to do things electronically and they have a great online system, which includes an app for my iPhone. Making an appointment as a new patient was a breeze. When I walked into the office I was instantly greeted by friendly staff (this is NOT the norm in DC). I had filled all the paperwork and had my medical file transferred prior to the visit so I had no paperwork to complete. I am not sure about 'hipster' furniture - but the waiting area was very comfortable - not those leather office chairs with straight backs that are extremely uncomfortable. There was water in the waiting area for patients.
I waited less than five minutes (I was a bit early) for Dr. Johnson to come out to get me personally. No nurse/physician's assistant asking me why I was there and doing my vitals. It was all handled by Dr. Johnson. She spent the first five minutes of our exam getting to know me. She asked a lot of questions and referred to my file several times. Dr. Johnson was very thorough and was very respectful of my decisions on what 'tests' to get and not to get.
The whole exam took 15 minutes. There was no pressure to rush through. There was no chaos that is usually seen in other offices. She explained all of the services that were available to me including the 24/7 phone line, Skyping when out of town, email responses within 24 hours, and Saturday hours.
The routine lab work was done in-house. No going to LabCorps and being treated like cattle. The technician was actually friendly (looking at you LabCorps) and I waited maybe two minutes for him to come get me to have my blood drawn. My results will be sent to me via email, which is very nice. I should get them by next Tuesday at the latest.
I am rarely sick and probably won't need to see her again until next year, but I have to say I was very impressed. I highly recommend Dr. Johnson.
I've had missed diagnoses that landed me in the ER, inappropriate treatment, miscommunications, and lab results that just simply were not submitted due to seeing PAs at their practice.
Providers I've seen:
Christopher Saj, PA-C - Do not recommend, he shies away from giving prescriptions, doesn't tailor his approach, and doesn't seem to hear you.
Casey O'Bryan, FNP - Really fun and patient
Debroah Grorud, MD - She has been my PCP. Very thorough and thoughtful in her approach. Unfortunately, difficult to get in on short notice.
Lindsay Sher, MD - The only person that was able to treat me after a very serious illness I had last year that dumbfounded many Drs.
Lauren Levy, PA-C - She works with Debroah so I saw her the most for regular things. Very easy to talk to.
I joined One Medical Group when I moved to DC in 2012. At first I was hesitant about joining a practice with an annual fee but after my first visit I was sold. The office is clean and quiet, the online appointment and refill systems are easy and efficient, and Dr. Grorud is a fabulous doctor.
First, I love the fact that when I have an appointment it is always on time. The doctors and PAs come to the waiting room and bring you back to the office and the appointment starts right away - there's no office staff/nurse/tech who comes and gets you and then takes your BP, temp, and weight who then leaves while you sit in the examining room another 10-15 minutes for the doctor. This alone gives One Medical Group an A+ rating in my book.
Second, as I mentioned, I can do almost everything online. I filled out my medical history (no 15 minutes of paper forms in the office), insurance information, and prescription information online. I can request a refill online and have confidence it will get placed without me having to check back with the office. I can also make, cancel, and reschedule all my appointments online.
Third, I love my doctor. I've always had problems finding doctors I liked but Dr. Grorud is great. You can tell she really cares about me as a patient and wants to support me in making some needed changes in my diet and exercise level. She's extremely thorough and communicates in an understandable way. She never rushes me like she needs to get into the next room. I've emailed her on rare occasion with follow-up questions and she is always responsive.
Lastly, One Medical Group has an after hours number that is great if you need medical advice. I used it once and had an email exchange with a nurse or PA, I can't remember, that saved me a trip to an urgent care facility.
