* He & his employee arrived on the promised day & time (Fri at 8:30)
* Walked around to show what needed to be done
* They worked diligently without breaks for four hrs
* Also willing to do anything else (hide a pipe under ground, move tree stumps)
* Left the property neat & tidy
* Small nit...took over a week before an invoice was emailed but it finally arrived
* Plan to call Zachary again in the spring
When we first discussed terms he stated that they would clear her snow for $50.00 a snowfall. I felt that this was a very fair price.
Unfortunately, this changed. They started coming later and one time they didn't come until it was almost dark outside. He also wasn't all that receptive to phone calls when my mother would call to make sure that she wasn't forgotten.
The trouble all came to a head as a result of the blizzard. I totally understood that it was going to take a long time for him to be able to get to my mother. However, I expected that he would live up to the initial agreement whereby they would clear her walks, her driveway and her front porch. This storm made it impossible for her to even open her front door. She was able to get out the side but that left her only one way out of her house in the event of an emergency.
When the crew showed up at my mother's house, the came in and used a bobcat to clear the driveway. They did a very sloppy job and were just going to leave without clearing the snow from her walks or her door. I would have totally understood if they planned to come back the next day so long as they were going to clear the front door. However, they were just going to leave. In fact, they had to call Zach to see if it was and quot;okand quot; to clear her walk.
They did shovel the walk but the job that they did was very haphazard. In fact, it went through part of a flower bed. Also, they did not clear the snow away from her garbage pail or her little shed where her recyclables are placed. In fact, snow was packed up against them from the bobcat going through. They also shoveled off only half of the front stoop where her front door is. They basically did the bare minimum.
I kind of thought that they would return a day or so later to finish up but they never did. We cleaned up ourselves when we went up to visit her days and days after the storm.
My mother has had a spinal fusion and cannot shovel at all or she could re-injure her back.
I sent an email to Zach to ask him why they hadn't done what he had stated they would. He called me back with an attitude and basically argued with me. I tried to reason with him about making sure that she, at the very least, had two exits from her home. He continued to argue with me and I finally gave up.
I did not receive an invoice for a very long time. I actually requested one during the phone conversation. When I received my invoices the totals did not add up to what we agreed to. The first time they cleared snow in December, Zach stated that they could take care of her for $50.00. He invoiced me for $75.00. He sent another invoice covering January and February. He charged $50.00 for two of the dates but $100.00 for the last. My issue is that I was never told to expect extra charges. In truth, I would have paid him extra without being asked for the clearing after the blizzard. I just was unhappy that I hadn't been told to expect it.
I sent an email voicing my confusion and he sent me an email quoting his prices. This was something that I had never seen before. He never mentioned it. The extra $25.00 for the first invoice was basically charged for an extra half inch of snow because he was invoicing based on 1-6 inches, 6-12 inches, and then more than 12 inches. I feel $25.00 is a bit excessive for 1/2 inch of snow.
In conclusion, I originally would have happily recommended his services to my family and friends. Now I would not. I am unhappy with the fact that I was not fully informed about his charges ahead of time. I am unhappy that he decided to bill me the higher rates after the work had been completed without discussing this with me ahead of time. I am unhappy that it seems like he is always ready to argue no matter how reasonable you try to be.
