Construction went smoothly overall. The final completion date did slip, but that is common, especially for projects done in the winter. Ground breaking was in late October with a completion date of Jan 1. Weather in November and December was horrible which prevented work from getting done. The job was completed by March 1. During construction we discussed a number of changes in the building, but eventually did not make any changes. Thus, the price that we paid for the completed project was the price that we were originally quoted. George was great at keeping me informed about the progress of the job and about contacting me when he would not be on site. There were really no surprises along the way or at the end. George did all of the actual construction himself, but subcontracted out the excavation and concrete floor work. When the subcontractors were working, George was on site to oversee the work. The only things that happened when he was not here was delivery of materials. Overall, George was excellent to work with and we expect to have him come and do some other remodeling projects for us as well. Just as an aside... We took over 1.5 years on this project (Us... not the builder!). We started with just wanting to extend our 2-car garage to a 3-car so that my wife's mother (who lives with us) can park inside. We talked to multiple builders, town planners (had to adjust plans to get our permit) and even builders of prefab garages (Kloter Farms & Barnyard). George was honest, straightforward and reliable. Another builder started giving us a low ball price but never gave us a start date, wouldn't sign a contract and kept raising the price. Ultimately, the time he took from us delayed the start by at least two months and pushed the work into months with bad weather. George was as good as gold to have work for us.
Description of Work: George build a 1.5 car detached garage for us that we use as a garage/workshop. The building has a posted foundation, concrete floor and full attic with pull down stairs. Siding is T-111, with three windows and a garage door (cost of the garage door not included). The roof has architectural shingles and a 12-12 roof pitch. Painting the siding was extra. The basic design of this is a simple building, but the touches that George put on for us and the quality of work make it an exceptional garage. Friends who are retired construction people have seen the building and noted how well it was built. This thing will stand up for a LONG time and the cost was closer to that of a prefab building (like Kloter Farms or BarnYard) than a custom garage which is essentially what it is.
