We purchased a new refrigerator. Before its arrival, we decided to upgrade the water line for the ice maker. Originally, we had a ¼ inch copper tube tapped into a cold water pipe in the basement, running through a hole in the floor to the kitchen behind the refrigerator. But, the instructions from the refrigerator company said they would only connect the ice maker if there were a shutoff valve directly behind the refrigerator.
Based on their excellent Angie?s List reviews and some work they had done previously, I contracted over the phone with Nunes to make the change. Since their business is affected by emergencies, they could only give me a tentative date and time, but Albert Nunes arrived at this time nevertheless. We decided to replace the copper tube with a standard ½? copper pipe leading to a ¼ turn shutoff valve behind the refrigerator. Then a flexible stainless steel hose was connected between the refrigerator and the shutoff valve. The job was bigger than the ball park estimate that I was given over the phone, sight-unseen, but they stuck to their original estimate.
Nunes uses state-of-the-art Propress connectors that are crimped to the pipe rather than soldered. When I checked on-line, these connectors have great reviews. They greatly reduce the complexity and time required to route pipe. I would have no concern about scorching or burning the house, since no soldering is required. While the house was drained down, I asked Albert to also install two new shutoff valves elsewhere, and they were able to do this quickly and at a reasonable add-on price.
Albert did a great job. He worked with me to understand my requirements and advise me. He did the job thoroughly and carefully, testing his work and cleaning up everywhere as he went. I was very pleased with his work. I would hire them again.
The plumber showed up on time, worked very hard installing the steel pipe and was finished with his work and pressure test just as the inspector and gas company arrived. The stove was working by 3 o'clock that afternoon.
About a month later I asked them to return and connect the boiler. The experence was exactly the same, first rate.
