Installer began work and decided it did not make sense to finish the hall and stairs if we were going to be moving furniture across it. So he planned to complete just the one bedroom in phase one, and the hall, stairs and other bedroom in phase 2.
It took the full 4 days to remove the rugs and finish one bedroom. That should have been a sign we were in trouble.
Before they came back for phase 2, we had a 2 day break. Steve schedulked another job, which ran over and my crew was tied up for 2 days of my 3-day phase 2.
There was mis-communication all around between Steve- me- and installers. Steve continued to insist that they could get the work done by the end of the third day, and the Installers felt pressured based on the original schedule. I had follow up work with my handyman to add the quarter round and paint the moldings once the floors were complete. That schedule was not met.
When I examined the completed floors, there were spots missing the clear finish, others where it looked as though stain had been poured on but not spread evenly around (ie dark pools of color). and my handyman said the work on the stairs was poor, with 6 loose boards and wide gaps to fill around the new boards. The installers cut the lengths of wood in the bedroom, and one board flew into the wall, creating a 3-5 inch hole. I know that accidents occur, but Steve never mentioned doing anything to make up for the mishap.
All in all, I think the issues were the result of mis-management. If the workmen had not been under such
pressure, and tired, they might have been able to complete a more professional job.
"Yes, I will take full responsibility for [Member Name] installation job not going as smoothly as it should have and my apologies to [Member Name] again. Unfortunately I rely on my installation truck boss to estimate job lengths and he was way off on this project. It took several more days than estimated. In terms of the quality of the work, I had visited the job after stage 1 and the finish work looked great. Upon completion of the job, I was told by my client that everything looked good and I was never notified to the contrary. We do take complaints seriously and would have addressed the issues accordingly."
