When I originally contacted Matt we weren't sure if we wanted to paint our house or pull off the old clapboards and put up new vinyl siding. After talking with Matt Gove we decided that siding would probably be our best option because there was some rot in the current boards and we weren't sure what was happening underneath. Thank goodness we went that route. There were spots of extensive rot underneath the boards that were pulled off. The work was done so professionally. I was at work while the house was being worked on, but every time they found a problem they would text me a picture and let me know how they were fixing it. The work was done the month before school started so my kids were in and out while the men worked and the workers were so nice to my children and were really just a pleasure to have around the house. I never came home to a mess inside or out, which is shocking considering the amount of work they were doing. On top of the siding they also replaced 36 Windows. The quote that Gove Restoration gave us to do 36 Windows and siding on our 3800 square foot house was cheaper than the quote another company gave us just for replacing 31 Windows and doing no siding. I could go on and on about what a great company this was to work with, from start to finish it was wonderful. We are getting so many compliments from everyone about how wonderful our house looks now and I don't hesitate for a second telling people who did the work. If you need work done on your house, this is the company to call!!!
We are so thrilled with the beautiful work that Gove Restoration did on the exterior of our house. They made a long time dream come true for us. Matt, Adam, and Mr. Gove are true professionals and a pleasure to work with. They kept us up to date and answered all of our questions throughout the project. We would (and will) most definitely work with them again on future home projects.
"We at Gove Restoration LLC appreciate feedback provided regarding one’s experience with us. There are times, however where we feel the need to accurately portray the events that occurred. This review is one of those cases. Due to the fact that we are out working in the field, it is highly probable that a customer will call and no one would pick up. Every customer has the option to leave a message if they choose to do so. We strive for high customer service in returning calls within a reasonable amount of time. As an A rated company this can be seen through the numerous positive reviews we have received. There is a specific process at Gove Restoration LLC to generate an accurate, detailed, and fair quote. First, we talk to the homeowner to set up a time to come out and look at the proposed work. Secondly, we look at the proposed work to provide an accurate quote. Thirdly, a detailed estimate is written and mailed to the homeowner. Under no circumstance has Gove Restoration LLC completed work without a signed contract nor have we ever offered to come out the same day to complete work. In this case the appointment to look at the proposed work was set for 3:45 pm on a Thursday with the Angie’s List member’s husband. It was never stated the work would be completed that day as this is not our practice. The estimate was mailed to the customer within two weeks of the original appointment. This is considered a reasonable amount of time due to how many appointments we go on, the number of estimates generated, and the detail of our estimates. It is true it was stated that the work could not be completed until after my vacation. However, this was stated before the estimate was sent out to the homeowner. We do not schedule jobs without a signed contract. It is a small job; however, it would have been unfair to customers who previously signed contracts with us to move anyone ahead of them. The estimate to complete this work was for $1000. As previously mentioned, this is a small job. However, certain procedures must be followed to complete the work correctly. A permit must be applied for with the town building official to complete the electrical work. The existing light must be removed and an opening must be created to properly install the vent fan. The duct work must be run in the attic containing blown in insulation and trusses. This duct work must be terminated to a louver vent on the gable side of the house. Siding must be removed to install this louvered vent. Flashing must be installed under the louvered vent before the siding is re-installed to prevent water from getting behind the siding thus causing rot and mold. Finally, the electrical connections to the new fan must be completed by a licensed electrician. There is more work involved than just installing a fan. That being said, the price of $1000 is fair if comparing apples to apples, something which is very difficult to do in this industry. We have found that our quotes generally are higher when compared to others. Past customers have informed us previous work in their homes had an end result of higher totals than our estimates as a result of change orders, add-ons, or sloppy estimates. This is because we overturn every stone when looking at a job and provide a high quality of service. This particular job required working in an attic in the middle of summer where insulation had been blown in and where the home was built using trusses. This is not an “easy” task. Gove Restoration LLC is a company that does not “price gouge” and will work on any size job. Furthermore, as can be seen by the many prior reviews, we are fair, professional, honest, and a cut above the rest."
As usual, the Gove's did a great job. They are clear and accurate with their estimates, work with you on all the materials needed, arrange for all of the sub-contractors and are punctual every day on the job. Overall we were very pleased with the craftsmanship and work. There were a few issues with the subs, but the Goves resolved those issues to our satisfaction. They are careful to inspect all of the sub-contractors work and follow-up if work is not to their standards. They also made it a point to contact us almost every evening to give us a rundown of the work they did that day, ask how we liked it, did we see anything not up to our standards and then they would go over the next day's work and what to expect. Another very nice aspect to working with the Goves is that they leave your house as clean as they found it in the morning. We never came home to a mess, dust, debris or clutter.
We will continue to use the Goves for all our future projects and will recommend them to any of our friends and family. Top notch company!
What was estimated was what was charged. No surprises. Put several coats of high quality paint. Best painting I've ever seen. This room seriously looks like it could be in a magazine and it makes me happy every time I look at it. Matt helped me pick the perfect color. Very polite, respectful, responsive, and communicated well throughout the project. Minimal disturbance to our family life. Minimal noise (I work at home). The workers were some family members and other employees that I felt comfortable with in my home. Very positive, creative, and productive. High integrity. They went back over the trim 3 times to catch any areas that may have been missed. My goal was to entertain in this room and wanted it to look beautiful. Although it was pricey, I now am SO happy with this room that I can't put a price on it. Even in this frigid, depressing weather this room just radiates beauty. If you want a top quality job, this is it! Check out their website to see the beautiful portfolio of work they have done. That's why I chose them. Thankful for Angie's List to help me find them as we are new to the area.
They were communicative at every step of the way, responsive when we had concerns, produced an extremely detailed contract and, wherever possible, stuck within the budget originally laid out. The project was expensive, but the work was done right and we wouldn't have it any other way. As many other reviews here indicate, Matt and Adam are hands-on contractors, and everyone on the team arrives on-time and works tirelessly to see the project completed. We feel like we can trust these contractors, and will be working with Gove Restoration on two bathrooms next and feel confident that they will help us create the bathrooms that we want in a way that complements the character of the house.
The entire job went much better than I could have expected. I've never had much construction done inside the house and wasn't sure how much of an inconvenience it would be.
The work took approximately 2 weeks and was performed by Matt, Adam and Paul from Gove as well as a few sub-contractors they brought in for the drywall hanging, taping and sanding. They were all great about communicating when they would arrive and how long the work would take each day. That was very helpful for me since I work from home and had to be careful about the noise interfering with my calls.
To save me some money, they were able to revise the plan mid-job, deciding to add headers to separate the new ceiling from the other rooms where there hadn't been any structural damage. The headers were blended into the adjoining walls, making it look as if the headers were actually part of the wall.
When they accidentally cut too close to an electrical cable, they told me about it right away and explained they were calling in an electrician on their own dime to check the wiring. Despite the fact there was no apparent damage, they had the electrician install a junction box just as a precaution.
They did a great job containing the dust to the front part of the house and cleaning up as much as they could they could throughout the process. The resulting ceiling and walls look great and I couldn't be happier.
I have no intention of searching for another contracting company for further work on my house. I've already asked them for quotes about some additional work I'd like them to do next year.
The bathroom turned out great...we love it!! It's nice to have a bathroom on the first floor!
Gove Restoration did the complete job (with all the subcontractors). They added walls, new flooring, plumbing, electrical, etc. They were meticulous with their attention to detail.
Of course, the whole project started with design work. They were a pleasure to collaborate with. We worked together to design the bathroom, select the location, and determine the style. They helped us to consider many design aspects that we never would have thought of. Because our house was built in 1833, we wanted the design of the bathroom to complement the style of the house. They helped us to consider new ideas to keep the cost down.
They also were very clean. They cleaned up at the end of every day so to minimize the frustration with all the construction. Also, they stuck to their schedule and began and ended the project just as promised...they were quick and complete! In addition, the project wasn't done until we were completely satisfied!
The end result is great! We had a real problem with drainage on the covered entry to our house. Because of the drainage problems, the wood was rotting and the appearance was quite ugly. Gove Restoration re-designed and re-constructed the covered entry. They redirected the rain water so that it would drain properly. They added gutters to help with the drainage. We're very pleased with the end result. The entry was once and eye-sore and now it is both attractive and functional! The rain water drains just like it should.
Additional gutters were replaced on the house.
Gove Restoration did a great job with the exterior painting of our house. Our house was built in 1833, so it had many layers of paint and perhaps some lead paint. They took all the environmental precautions in dealing with the lead paint. The team worked quickly and thoroughly. The finished result is wonderful.
In addition, they painted two decks, railings, steps, and doors. The decks & railings were covered with mildew. The decks were washed and the mildew removed. It's amazing how much better it looks!
A big revelation from this project is: never underestimate the impact of a new coat of paint!! We were not excited about this project because we thought that it would not make a big impact. Boy, were we wrong! The new ceilings, walls, and new paint made a huge improvement to our house!
Part of the project included new woodwork & carpentry (door frames, baseboards, chair rails, fireplace mantle/surround). This was another area where we underestimated the impact of the new carpentry. Because of their experience with restoring old homes (our house was built in 1833), they were able to advise style of woodwork that would enhance and complement the style of our house. I was reluctant at first, but they really knew what they were doing! The end result is fabulous and historically accurate.
They were meticulous with attention to detail. The name of their company fits their work, "restoration". They restore old homes to their former glory. They don't just renovate or remodel. They truly restore.
Part of the benefit in working with Gove Restoration is they start and end the project right on schedule. The project ended within a day of their original estimate. In addition, they clean up at the end of every work day. Their entire team is friendly, customer focused, professional, and a pleasure to work with.
