The designer was a cheerful and friendly person. That is the end of the positive experience.
The designer did not come with a laptop, book or booklets, or any samples (of anything) for me to look at. I paid for a design but the consultant assumed that I would be having the work done by their company which was not necessarily the case. As a result of this assumption the answer to many of my questions was "that comes later in the remodeling process." I asked for the design to contain glass in the cabinets on the sink side of the kitchen, the designer put them on the opposite wall and then told me on the next visit it would be a waste to put the glass on that wall since no one would see it there when they came into the kitchen! I asked to have rounded edges on the countertops but was told if I wanted that I would need to accept an ugly seem where the countertops met. The design I was presented with did not contain what I had asked, did not contain any new input from the designer, and looked as if it was just printed off a computer 5 minutes before coming to my house. The cabinets which I wanted to be white were made gray in the drawing and they did not even have door knobs or handles on the doors and drawers. When asked what I didn't like about the drawing I didn't know how to answer because I had not been shown any options that were available to me. I truly felt ripped off and was at a loss for words because the consultant was such a friendly outgoing person.
During the initial visit I asked about types of cabinet doors, types of glass, how I could keep from having useless space in corner cabinets, types of add-ons which would allow for additional organization within and I kept being told that I was getting ahead of myself. Then when the design was presented to me it didn't have any of the options I would have liked to have. To add insult to injury the consultant had offered to do a design of my bathroom at no extra charge and she took some measurements and we discussed what I was looking for. She did not even bring any design with her at all for the bathroom. No effort whatsoever was put into designing a workable and aesthetically pleasing new kitchen for me and yet I was presented with a proposed price tag of $17,000!!! It seems that a pull out drawer for garbage and other types of organizers and conveniences would be in addition to this price tag. I requested a refund from Living Social but was told because I received the service (what service?) they could not refund my money. They did give me 15 dollars in LS bucks but I probably won't go back to use them.
After the disappointing visit, I set up an appointment with a low cost kitchen place that I saw a t.v. commercial for and met with one of their designers. We sat in front of a computer screen. I was provided with booklets to look through for ideas and conveniences which I might want to consider including in the remodeled kitchen. I was shown samples of different color patterns and samples for counter tops as well as numerous options for the cabinets. It was then that I realized I'd been had. Do your homework first before calling this company. They expect you to know what you want when you call them. This was a very unfortunate experience and I was surprised that Living Social would not grant a refund after I described my experience in order to protect their clients from being scammed like I felt I was.
"This is a very disappointing review of a consultation. A kitchen design is a process. For only $49, a designer was sent to [removed members name] home to see her space, measure the kitchen, and talk about what she was looking for in her a new space. With the information from the first visit, the designer again went to [removed members name] home with a design and some initial samples to serve as a starting-point for the kitchen remodel. At that meeting, more information was shared, and a second revised design was presented to [removed members name] the next business day. That was the end of [removed members name] experience with us. The alternate experience that [removed members name] seems to have been happy with is one of the big-box stores or a company that just sells cabinets. In dealing with such a company, a client brings in their own measurements of their space, and sits with whoever is on-duty at his or her computer. Aspen Kitchen & Bath is a full-service remodeling company specializing in complete remodels. We have a beautiful showroom and we try to bring the experience to you instead of you having to go to a store. We are very disappointed that [removed members name] didn’t allow the process to play out. I’m certain she would have loved the result!"
There was someone from Aspen at my home everyday either working or supervising work. I was very nervous about the construction aspect in my home, but Cyril was there the whole time making sure everything went well and there were no problems. I absolutely love my new kitchen. I wish I could sleep in there!
Aspen also took out some of my hardwood flooring at the back slider that was getting all wet and discolored from the snow and rain. He replaced it with tile. He worked quickly to get the job done, and put in transitions that make it look like the tile was always there. It looks fantastic! Both jobs were completed on-time and on-budget with the constant supervision of Cyril. I couldn't be happier!
