I was given no warning as to the price or what might be charged prior to the technician arrival - only to be shocked by a large invoice. Their first visit was made by a technician that took his time and we were billed fairly. I did contact the company and after two attempts was able to speak to the service manager. The price was altered downward and I thought about not writing this review but I think that people are in a position to use emergency services should be able to know ahead of time why the charges might be - like an estimate. At a bare minimum, the consumer should know ahead of time that the parts are marked up in what most would consider extremely high multiples.
And all of this when you are a long time customer with service contracts on other properties. The home serviced is occupied by a rental tenant so I did not learn until this past week (5/18/2014) that the boiler is still leaking through the valve they just replaced.
I have since cancelled my service with Wilcox and engaged another heating oil and service provider. In reviewing my historical usage for oil year over year and comparing it to my current usage I have found significant reductions in my total oil usage. So significant I am troubled. I went from an average of 500 - 575 gallons per seasons to less than 250 gallons in the first heating season. The troubling part is that we made no changes to our homes heating system (other than using a different service to to tune the burner). The other thing that is also very troubling is that the cost of oil is significantly lower with the new provider (that is after factoring in the recent overall drop in prices).
