A while back, my elderly mother's central A/C drain got clogged, and she hired the first place she called to fix it on an emergency basis. She recently got a mailing from that company offering to do a low-cost check of her system, which she got done. While she described them as 'very nice,' they terrified her with talk of dirty/moldy ducts and a system that needed replacing, telling her she shouldn't ever turn on her existing A/C anymore as it needed to be totally replaced. Since she never had any problem with the A/C except the one clog, I researched reputable companies and Wilcox Energy stood out (plus it turned out that many of my mother's friends have happily used Wilcox for decades). My mother had Wilcox come to check her system, and they did a 'tune-up,' replaced the filter, and told her it would be fine to use for now--and it is currently working well. We are so happy to have identified an honest, highly reputable and well-established local company to meet her A/C needs, and expect to use them if/when her A/C system actually does need to be replaced.

We've used them for a while.  It would depend upon the service I was asking for whether I would use them again or not.  I've used them for multiple services over the course of the years.  There are some of them that I would not hesitate to call them on, there are some that I would not want to call them on.

I have been using them for 20 years. They are not the cheapest. I highly recommend them and they are very responsive. The techs are very knowledgeable. They are very good, troubleshoot and do not charge you for time that is “wasted”. They will spend the time to figure things out and they won’t overcharge you. They figure out what the problem is, then they assess it.

First let me say that the company is responsive and attentive and their pricing in the past was reasonable in the past. I have used them for more than 10 years for my oil deliveries and for my burner service. They also serviced this property in the past. In this most recent visit I felt that the technician was rushed and the work was not on par with other visits that they made to this property. The price I felt was outrageous with many parts marked up beyond what I would consider reasonable.
I was given no warning as to the price or what might be charged prior to the technician arrival - only to be shocked by a large invoice. Their first visit was made by a technician that took his time and we were billed fairly. I did contact the company and after two attempts was able to speak to the service manager. The price was altered downward and I thought about not writing this review but I think that people are in a position to use emergency services should be able to know ahead of time why the charges might be - like an estimate. At a bare minimum, the consumer should know ahead of time that the parts are marked up in what most would consider extremely high multiples.
And all of this when you are a long time customer with service contracts on other properties. The home serviced is occupied by a rental tenant so I did not learn until this past week (5/18/2014) that the boiler is still leaking through the valve they just replaced.
I have since cancelled my service with Wilcox and engaged another heating oil and service provider. In reviewing my historical usage for oil year over year and comparing it to my current usage I have found significant reductions in my total oil usage. So significant I am troubled. I went from an average of 500 - 575 gallons per seasons to less than 250 gallons in the first heating season. The troubling part is that we made no changes to our homes heating system (other than using a different service to to tune the burner). The other thing that is also very troubling is that the cost of oil is significantly lower with the new provider (that is after factoring in the recent overall drop in prices).

Wilcox Fuel is unbelievably responsive and reliable. They will come out in an emergency 24/7 and they'll be there within an hour. They do fine workmanship and their prices are very reasonable for this area. Their service is very good and the servicemen have all been professional and courteous.
