Work was supposed to begin early in June. At about June 20, when we hadn't heard from anyone, I went to MCM Restoration and found that Patrick McAneeny, the owner had left our contract on his desk and hadn't notified his production manager so no one knew about the job. We had paid a little over $2,000 when we signed the contract. The production manager scheduled the work to begin on June 24. No one showed up until June 28. The demolition of the bathroom and the installation of the wall board went pretty good. When the worker put the wallboard on the ceiling, he didn't remove the ceiling fan and put paste all around the fan. I had to remove the fan and chip the paste off of it and sand down the ceiling so I could paint it. No one showed up again from July 6 until July 13 and none of my calls were returned. I finally went to MCM and raised a stink with the owner. On July 13 and 14 a worker came and put the floor tiles down. The contract called for MCM to purchase all items. Patrick McAneeny called me and asked me to buy the toilet and tank. I had to travel 15 miles, pick up the toilet and bring it home. On July 15, the workers installed the toilet and vanity. The trap under the sink was installed crooked and leaks. On July 19 the came to do the electrical work. When I came home at night, none of the switches worked properly. They had to send the electrician back and it took him all day to get it right. I don't think he was an electrician and he was just guessing where the wires went. Part of the job was to have the bathtub re-glazed. Mr. McAneeny was supposed to make arrangements with the glazer. He told me that I would have to do it. I asked how much the glazing would cost and he told me $700 which I thought was very steep. When the glazer came, he told me that he was uncomfortable because Mr. McAneeny owed him $500, McAneeny asked him to glaze my tub for $200 but charge me $700 and that would cover the $500 owed him. He said that he couldn't glaze my tub for $200 and make a profit. I asked the glazer how much it would cost to glaze my tub if it were just between the two of us and he said $490 was the going price so we made our own contract and left MCM out of it. The tub was glazed on August 2. Finally, the contract called for vinyl wainscoting on the bottom of the walls. I've since discovered that the wainscoting is made of pressboard. At no time during the "remodeling" did the project manager come to the house to check on the progress. I was constantly asked by the workers for advice and to solve problems. Today, the man who was the project manager came to the house and wanted the final payment. I told him that there was a list of repairs that had to be made before I would make the final payment. He told me that McAneeny closed the doors to the company and hadn't paid any of the workers and he was going to the different homes to finish up. I said that my contract was with MCM and I wouldn't pay his workers.
Description of Work: We hired MCM Restoration for a small bathroom remodeling; ceiling, walls, floor; new toilet, new vanity and tub surround.
