After one winter in our "new" old home, we were very concerned about the amount of oil we were burning and the constant chill in our daughter's bedroom. Competitive Resources was recommended to us by a coworker. We were able to get an appointment at our convenience. We were totally surprised by the results of our blower door testing and by the amount of work that they did. The team was on the move the entire morning, sealing cracks and open fixtures, replacing lightbulbs, etc. They also recommended to us some small fixes we could make on our own to improve conditions in our attic until we are able to undertake a more extensive renovation. They were timely, polite, friendly, and kid-tolerant! Our second winter in the house was much more comfortable, as the rooms stayed evenly heated -- the chill in our daughter's room is a thing of the past. We haven't done the "gallons of oil per heating degree day" calculation yet, but I fully anticipate that we will have saved hundreds of dollars on oil this winter over last.
Description of Work: Home energy audit with blower door testing, sealing of many leaks and open fixtures, replacement of shower and sink heads with low flow units, replacement of many lightbulbs with CFL's, installation of door sweep under drafty attic door.

A friend had this service done @ her home and made the referral. The technicians, Brett and Nick, were 30" late. Brett called me twice and obviously was in charge. We looked at the existing insulation, what energy conservation measures I had already done and what needed to be done. He reviewed my gas and electric bills for the past year and my existing large appliances. All were new, in the past 5 yrs, therefore didn't need replacement. Rebates are available for older appliances. Brett recommended adding more insulation to the attic and referred me to Connecticut Home Solutions [CHS]. I set up an appointment with CHS before Brett left. Brett reviewed the paperwork while Nick set up the negative pressure testing and did the insulation work. The entire process took 2 hrs, as promised.
Description of Work: It started with a general assessment of the home, checking existing insulation in the cellar & attic, measuring air leaks by negative pressure. Foam insulation was sprayed around pipes & bathroom ceiling fan, covered hot water pipes with tube type foam insulation, installed CFL light bulbs. Around three doors, applied insulation in door jams & door sweeps at the bottom. To check the effectiveness of their work, the negative pressure test was re-done. There was also a booklet outlining other energy conservation measures and rebates for new more energy efficient appliances. A computerized followup report arrived by postal mail about a week later.
