We hired Artistic do refinish our heartwood pine floors. Cliff, the owner, seemed very knowledgeable about the type of wood and how to restore it. The floors turned out mostly OK -- in some places the puttied areas are very noticable, but I know the floors are old and I don't really have any frame of reference, so I don't hold that against the company. However, in some places the baseboards were pretty well scuffed by the sanders and stained by the polyurethane. What was supposed to be a three-day job ended up taking five, which created a hardship for my wife and I, since we weren't living in the house at the time and had to arrange to let the crew in every day, but Cliff was reasonable about knocking some $$ off of the agreed-upon cost by way of compensation. Two things didn't happen that were supposed to: Cliff said the front door threshold would be sanded and polyed, he said he'd provide a piece of architectural wood to bridge the approx. 1" high gap between the hallway floorboards and bathroom tile. We've called and left messages several times about the latter over the past few weeks, but have received no response. A word of advice: if you use this company, don't pay off the invoice until they do everything they said they would.
