I honestly don't know if I would hire them again, but said "yes" above because Angie's List forces you to answer the question.
"I'm sorry you feel you didn't get your moneys worth but normal Service Calls cost between $150-$300 for the first half hour. Most people don't see the Travel expenses involved in the job. So even though the Electrician was there 20 Minutes, after Travel time, it was more like closer to 2 hours. For $89.00, that a great deal. It appears like you forgot the conversation he had with you that day. He did ask about Carbon Monoxide Detectors. You said you didn't have any. He explained to you that a Smoke Detector is required on every floor and one in every bedroom. He then recommended a "plug in"Carbon Monoxide Detector since you had an old house and it would be costly to add one. He also mentioned buying "Battery Only" Smoke Detectors since it would be impossible to "hard wired" new Smokes & CO Detectors. Also, he inspected your Main Panel and grounding, which is inside panel, and mentioned to you that your Panel looks newer and needed no work. Your Electrical Service Cable was newer and needed no work as well. He talked to you about knob & Tube wiring and even looked at your basement wiring, which was not in the scope of the Inspection Deal, but still gave you recommendations as to proceed with replacing it.. Arc Fault Circuits are only required in the Bedrooms by Code and since you have knob & Tube wiring, an arcing potential is present at each receptacle. So he recommended installing Arc Fault breaker to minimize the risk. I know they are expensive to put in but are a life safety assurance. We gave you a written estimate and never heard back from you. The Deal was not to Inspect the whole house."
While there were a couple of bumps in the job due to misunderstandings and/or miscommunications, what matters is how everything was handled and the end result. The breaker panel was first wall-mounted rather then recessed, as expected. I spoke with the owner, John, and he agreed that the reason we had chosen that particular location was to provide the option to recess it. He immediately agreed to re-do the work. This was a lot of time and work, yet both he and the crew were professionals and took it in stride. I was not able to fully explain the wiring set-up needed for the well water tank, which also resulted in some re-work after discussions between John and the plumber. In summary, I was very satisfied with the end result and just as important, the customer service level. Things do not always go perfectly but how they are handled can make all the difference. Because I felt some of the miscommunication was shared equally, and due to the additional 1/2 day's work needed, I did not request the Angie's discount offered. Those guys earned it, due to both the actual re-work and the frustration I'm sure they felt but were professional enough not to show it.
We scheduled our service for a week or so later and the team was in and out of the house in less than the estimated amount of time. We appreciated their speed as it was a freezing cold day and both my husband and I were home with our 8 week old son. The only reason I gave a B mark for punctuality was because the team was about 20 minutes late in arriving, but they called to tell us ahead of time and it was not a big deal to us since we planned to be home for the day.
Overall, I would highly recommend to anyone looking for an electrician and I know we will use him again for any future services.
"I'm very surprised that your still unhappy even though we gave you $300 OFF our Labor plus discounted Labor Rate "Big Deal" promotion. I think you were hoping for the job to be completely "Free" by finding something to complain about. We did get back to you right away and when I told you that we couldn't do a 200 Amp Service ($2,600) for $99.00, you said you would wait and find something that the 2 hours (Big Deal) could fill. As I mentioned to you in November 2012, when the job was completed, we originally did give you Verbal estimate to replace the whole Service and you said No. You purchased a "Angie's List Big Deal Promotion" for 2 Man hours labor for $99. You had a large list of electrical items to do. I told you that the $99.00 was not going to cover the amount of time to do that work. You then said you wanted the outside Service Cable fixed. I told you we could replace the Service Cable but the Meter Socket might have to be replaced because it was open to the weather and water has gotten into it and corroded the terminals. I said I will check and if it needs to be replaced, I wont Charge you any additional Labor (since you were a new customer) but just Materials. You were very happy & Verbally agreed. After we finished the job and billed you, your husband (removed member name) emailed me looking for an itemized. I was shocked that he wasn't happy with the Free $300 Labor that we gave him and was scrutinizing a $451.99 bill that normally would have cost $1,400.00. I did send an itemize bill with No Labor cost and 12 items Materials which Totalled $425.00 + $26.99 Tax. He then sent me back an email back requesting Receipts for every item purchased. Although I was taken aback at this request, I did not get angry with him. I simply stated that we don't provide itemized receipts for Materials we purchased. It would be impossible to do that since we buy in bulk and stock the trucks months in advance. We did itemize each item for you. The Material prices were very reasonable. But even that wasn't enough for you. I feel like we went out of our way to make you happy but it appears that unless you get a Free job, you will keep Re-Posting a negative Review."
transfer switch and small generator. Parts were scarce when I ordered
and I did not get my delivery until January. I needed someone to hook it all up. I found JTN Electrical was
running a special on Angie's List. The reviews looked good so I
decided to give them a try. JTN gave me an estimate a little over
$300. They came in on budget for labor and materials. Connected the
circuits I needed to the transfer box and mount the outdoor plug. JTN
had to provide and run about 60 feet of electrical cable between the transfer box and the outdoor power plug. I unpacked the generator and discovered the unit had severe damage. Going back and forth with the generator
shipper I finally got the parts I needed under warranty and had a local
small engine specialist complete the repairs. I missed when I bought
the generator that the cable was 3 prong and not 4 prong. JTN
Electrical quoted me $185 for material and labor to fabricate a cable to
adapt my three prong generator to work on a 4 prong transfer switch.
We completed the job about a week after I notified JTN Electrical that
the generator was now working and I needed an adapter cable and also to
prove out the system. JTN Electrical receives my highest rating. I
would definitely use them again and recommend JTN Electrical with the
highest confidence.
