VW will provide three free services

after purchase of a new car. I went for the third service with a car a bit

under three years old. Some minor repairs, not covered, had to be done and after

that I was told the car was in good shape. I also received a printout of all the areas

inspected which included a check that the battery condition and load test were good.

The next morning the car would not start and charging the battery did not help.

When I called VW, the service representative at Riverbank, which is now called Prestige

Volkswagen, Stamford, CT, gave me a whole list of items that could have broken on

what was a 15 mile trip home. Not wanting to tow the car that distance, I

called a local repair facility that deals with Volkswagens, Surgical Auto

Repair, Mt. Vernon, NY. They offered at the outset to come over to New

Rochelle from Mt. Vernon and take a look at the problem, perhaps jump start the

car and take it to their shop in an effort to avoid a tow. They came, did a computer check, said there

was hardly any voltage available and were not able to start the engine with their

usual portable voltage source. They came

back the next day with a super voltage source, started the car with ease, drove

it to Mt. Vernon where they had to only replace the battery and had the car

ready for me that afternoon. I’ve had no

problems the past month and that leaves me scratching my head as to how Prestige

Volkswagen could miss a near dead battery, which they were supposed to check, and

one that was so destroyed that it couldn’t even take a charge from a battery charger.

So much for the quality of the free service !!! When I called Prestige after Surgical

Auto’s work to tell them what had happened I was not able to talk to any

responsible person but I did get assurances from someone at the service desk

that a service representative would call me. That did not happen.

They sold me my car and that was a good experience. It was very straightforward and the whole process when very easily. I brought it back for my 10000 mile checkup and 10000 mile checkup and they are always very polite and accommodating and will always get you in when they say but they just weren't able to address the problems that I had with the car. They always want to do well for you. I had some squeaks in the car that shouldn't be in a new car but they couldn't fix it. I wanted the sound that goes off when you lock it silenced but they said it couldn't be done but I did some research on the internet and found out it could be done. So I called customer service and they had to instruct them on how to do it so they could have taken a little more initiative.
