The Navien boiler installation was done extremely well until the unit was being connected to the existing thermostat control system. The new installation doubled the voltage in the system when connected causing two smart thermostats to fail. Despite the unit not being fully functional (required manual turning on and off during November), the technician demanded full payment with a promise that the owner would arrange for an electrician to fix the problem the following day. We did not hear from anybody until five days later. The owner paid for the repairs to the existing thermostat control system.

Their installer was very knowledgeable, professional, and did a great job with the installation. The following issues makes my experience a one out of five star experience despite the quality of workmanship. Everything was fine until about 7pm when I was informed that the existing thermostat wiring was not working with the new unit. The installer consulted with me and I shared all of the information that I had on the system. At 8:30 pm I was informed that the unit would need to be turned on and off manually. In other words, I would need to go to the basement every time and turn the boiler on/off whenever my home was either too hot or too cold. When I asked what was next, I was told to hire an electrician. I have been trying to hire an electrician for the past three months for other work. Telling me to "hire an electrician" was like telling me to be my own thermostat for three months. When I made this point, I was assured that the owner of JNR would contact me the following day with the name of an electrician who could perform the work promptly. I was then told that I needed to write a check to JNR for $12.6K that evening. I asked why I was not being invoiced like typical practice and I was told that those conditions were outlined in the proposal that was emailed to me. This was not pointed out to verbally prior and I did not peruse the proposal for this exception. Like the majority of middle class families, I do not keep a balance of nearly $13k in my checking account. I stated that I would write the check but I would be at the mercy of my bank as to when funds could be transferred from an equity line of credit to my checking account. I then realized the absurdity that I was expected to pay the balance of a $15.9K boiler installation at 8:30 pm when the boiler wasn't even capable of turning itself on or off with a thermostat. I stated then that I would pay the balance when the unit was functioning properly. In response, the installer became highly agitated and said that he would need to call the owner and there was going to be a big problem. I was so sick and frustrated with the process that I paid the check anyway just to get the evening over with. The following day, no one contacted me regarding coordinating me with an electrician who could interface my new system with my existing thermostats. I have a new boiler for which I am the human thermostat. Words cannot begin to describe how p***** off I am with this, "Not my problem, Man." attitude with completing the comprehensive scope of my installation. I look forward to sharing the details of my experience online publicly so other buyers can decide whether they want a similar experience.

I aim to be as fair and balanced as possible when it comes to the reviews I leave, especially when it comes to small businesses. I'm the first to leave 5 star feedback when I work with a company that goes above and beyond. For that reason, I trust that others do the same when they post reviews. I have to say that I was encouraged by the great reviews JNR Plumbing had, so I reached out to schedule a consultation. I did not end up going with them for my kitchen remodel. Here were my main takeaways from the experience and my reasons for giving JNR a two-star rating: - They charge a $150 fee just for providing a quote, which can be used towards the service if you choose to go with them (this is of course a gamble, but just be aware of this before engaging with them) - It seems like a larger operation, so they were very responsive and somewhat professional - The person they sent out wore PPE and took necessary precautions - They arrived within a couple minutes short of the of the arrival window cutoff time - For reference, they quoted me over $12,000 for the following scope of work: relocating a washer and dryer to the basement directly underneath the kitchen (with laundry sink), hooking up a bar sink where the washer and dryer were, moving the reverse osmosis filter from the main kitchen sink to the bar sink to feed to refrigerator, moving the main sink over a few inches, installing a dishwasher, and obtaining a permit. $11,600 for labor and material; about $1K for permit. I received a more reasonable quote from a competing service. Not complaining about the price - I'm sure people are willing to pay that. It just didn't fall within my budget - I emailed to express my concerns about the price and that I would be going with another service. They were mostly respectful, but mentioned that they "cannot control a person's price range for work." The more appropriate response in my opinion would have been to work with me to see what my budget is and see if there were any minor work arounds or ways to come up with a mutually beneficial solution. The response signaled to me that this company might not really need my business - Reading defensive responses to others who left lower than 3 star ratings was off-putting Overall takeaway - if a company charges $150 just for a consultation, ask yourself why, since many others can offer one for free. I'll never know whether JNR was great at what they do or not, since I'm not working with them. However, I'm personally choosing to work with an empathetic business that values its customers and seeks to understand their needs.

I had an emergency with my water heater and JNR Plumbing was able to adjust their schedules and come by within 2-3 hours and fix it. Their technician Joseph Kmetz was very professional and patient. He fixed the issues in a calm and timely manner. Best of all he wore shoe covers and took care to be clean. And when he was done he clearly explained all the various work items and the invoice. I would highly recommend JNR Plumbing and Joseph Kmetz for any plumbing needs.

Steve did a much faster job on my toilet than expected; because of this I asked if he could perform the same service on my other toilet while he was here. He completed both toilets, which was a huge bonus for me. As usual, great job! Highly recommend!

JNR was Professional, very responsive, used text messaging to send a picture of their plumber in advance of his arrival, and was willing to accommodate my requests. But ultimately their pricing is out of whack.

We are glad you pointed out that our team understood your displeasure in waiting for another part that was assumed to be with the complete trim kit you requested, and had that part shipped overnight (at no extra charge). Unfortunately, Grohe does supply their parts a little different than other standard manufacturers, but that is no excuse for our techs to not know this. Yes, as shown your 2 itemized invoices, the trim kit you wished to purchase was $261.45. We can understand you found it online cheaper but, we cannot compete with online warehouse vendors. The cartridge needed comes separate from the trim and was just over $100 and the missing part that is not supplied with the trim was also just over $100. The rest was basic plumbing parts needed to complete the quality job you received. Please feel free to call us if you would like to discuss this further, we would be happy to do so."

Professional service. Plumbers were very polite. They were equipped with gear in their van to fix issues Service was prompt and had good notification via text and email..However the service was pricey, All fees were not disclosed upfront - for example I was charged a trip fee as well as commute time for the first visit. I wasnt told of either of these fees. I discovered the trip fee on the first visit and the commute fee on the second visit(as the trip fee was waived). Given the cost is per 15 minutes of work, it seems unfair to bill someone for driving time. They did spend a good amount of time to do a good job. The first time they took 3 hours to figure out what the leak was. They tried a few options before cutting into the celing. they removed the toilet and then told me that the tile was broken. I had to reset the tiles on the bathroom floor and get them to come back and put in the toilet bowl. The first time they did have a 10% discount of the workers hours. The workers were very helpful and very professional. I would really like to hire them again, they seem a great company however I would have to think twice about the added costs. There was still a little leak which I discovered later. It looked like the reinstallation of the toilet left the plastic connection on the pipe a little loose.

The work took about 20 minutes but I got charged for a full hour of labor plus travel time. Too expensive for my blood.

Please let us know so we can follow up with our techs as we want to ensure all clients that our technicians are being over the top professional. We would like to know, why the price issue was not discussed with the technician who presented you the invoice on January 8th, upon completion of his work and collection of payment? Our dispatch report shows he was at your home for close to an hour. We understand we are not the cheapest company around and we surely are not the most expensive. After all, having licensed and insured employees who also get a well above average benefit package does come with a cost."

The plumber, John Martinoli, was a class act and total pro. He immediately came in, instantly diagnosed the problem and performed the needed repair. I couldn’t have asked for better service. Totally satisfied. I won’t heditate to use JMR again in the future and am grateful that I was able to find them through Angie’s List.
