She brought the cart back five days later, explaining it did not fit with our decor. The salesman refused to refund her money. He disavowed ever having the conversation about being able to return the item.
We filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Canal Street Antiques answered the complaint - but their answer contained several untruthful statements. They claimed no refund offer was ever made; they claimed refunds are not available on credit card purchases; they claimed we paid with a credit card - but we paid with a check.
There are plenty of reputable places you can buy furniture (antique or otherwise). There is no need to use someplace that is going to screw you over in this manner. We were disappointed by the salesman reneging on his offer to take the piece back within a week's time - but were infuriated when the company made untruthful statements to the BBB in an attempt to stop our claim against them. Stay away.
