Dave was available to come out the same day. He did a thorough walk-through of my basement and gave me advice on the structure. He pointed out to me how the house was built, where there were changes made, etc. He explained everything clearly and left me feeling confident about the structure.

They just do "visual" inspections from a distance most of the time.
Complete waste of money, stay away from these guys.

We decided on going with another home inspection company that was able to fit us in right away and sent an email to confirm as I was on the phone with them.

The experience was a good one. My wife and I are first time home buyers, and we are moving into a completely new area. We were anxious about the whole process, especially considering that both of us are not the handiest of people when it comes to home repairs.
Eric Rowe handled our inspection.
My wife wasn't able to attend the inspection, but I was there for the whole time. Eric was at the house before me and as other reviewers noted, yes, he comes with water and snacks. The man was super concerned about us. He repeatedly stopped the inspection to make sure I was following along and asked if I had any questions. Eric climbed, crawled, and touched every reachable surface/space of that house. As long as I felt comfortable, I was welcome to follow along. I joined him in the attic where he was busy taking photos and pointing out areas of potential water leaks. I let him climb onto the roof alone, but he had plenty of pictures to show me when he came down.
I was him when he checked out all the kitchen appliances and when we discovered that the oil tank was bone dry so we couldn't check the furnace and hot water operations. Eric didn't flinch at the dry oil tank though. He said he would come back when he picked up the radon test results and could finish the furnace inspection then. We arranged with the seller to put some oil in the tank, and was able to inspect the furnace, heat, and hot water items with my wife this time too. Eric took the time to explain the furnace and how it worked, and how it heated our water.
The man is bottom line, a professional who cares about his job and cares about providing service and education to the client. I really felt that the inspection was just as much an education on home system functions than just an inspection.
Because of the VA loan we went through, I had to order a bunch of extra inspections, so our price was a bit more than others. $395 was Sherwood's bare bones inspection fee at the time. Each extra service added to the price.
You won't be dissatisfied with Sherwood. Great team all around.
