I did write a review on Birch Mountain Earthworks website but found that it was immediately deleted, with only the positive reviews remaining. The workers who came to our home were very helpful however they apparently did not work fast enough to satisfy the owner. The last day the "salesperson" as well as the owner's father arrived to quickly finish the job. We paid to have shrubs replanted and topsoil brought in and seeded to complete the job. The shrubs were literally thrown into holes dug by the salesperson in dress clothes. I was witness to the planting and told them that the roots were not even covered properly. The shrubs did not survive. In addition, the soil was filled with debris, sticks and stones. They threw the grass seed in clumps.
When we went down to Birch Mountain Earthworks with photos of the landscaping we were told they did not guarantee grass. As is our nature, we were polite and respectful to the owner and his parents who were present. The owner was NOT interested in seeing the photos and basically not at all interested in our problem with the shrubs. My husband took issue with his arrogance. The owner asked what we did for a living. We told him we were retired teachers in South Windsor. His response was, " Oh really... what do they say about that. Oh, yeah... those that do, do. Those that can't teach!" He and his father were laughing a we simply left.
In addition, water pools at the base of the walkway when it rains, indicating that the walkway is not level. In light of our previous experience we made the decision not to return to Birch Mountain Earthworks to report this. Instead we hope that our experience will be of help to others who read the "positive" reports on the website. I am sure that the others who have had similar negative experiences with the workmanship and the owner have had their reviews deleted as we have.
Shaun and Corey installed our paver patio, and we couldn't have been more impressed with their professionalism. It only took three days for the two of them to complete the work, and everything was spotless before they left each day they were here. We have three dogs, one of which doesn't take to visitors very well, and they were so good with him -- I think he really liked them! I was nervous at first when I saw that Shaun and Corey were smokers -- feared all the cigarette butts I was going to have to pick up, but was in awe when I noticed them putting the cigarette butts in their shirt pockets, rather than just littering them all over the yard. We were also amazed at how well orchestrated everything was....they were in close contact with the office, and just as they needed the next set of materials, they showed up.
The afternoon that the job was completed, Daren came over to see that everything was to our liking, and we enjoyed sitting on the patio telling him how impressed we were with the work that was performed. Neighbors had noticed the work going on as well and also came over to comment on how impressed they were. I have and will continue to recommend Birch Mountain Earthworks to anyone looking to hire landscapers.
"Although we make an effort to have every customer satisfied some customers are simply never satisfied. We encountered other contractors working at this property at the same time and they had the same issues with this customer as we did. We now know why the company that had done all of the landscaping work before we got there would not call this customer back."
"Often times when doing any home remodeling project issues that may come up are unable to be seen until the project begins and is underway. As this customer suggests we did do a good job in helping with items that were not even within the scope of the landscape project."
