DO NOT USE THIS CONTRACTOR!!!!
let you say a word. Advertising he's best. I ask him if he can come out.
He said he won't and he ask if I also called other places. I said I did
and he said why don't you hired them instead then hung up. The place
don't have a real address either something I realized in case if you
need to complain I don't think you can. Beware!
I normally don't write any bad reviews unless I have to.
The entire work took about a week and half. Everyday, the crew came promptly by 7am. Charles and his team prepared the work area with tarps to protect flooring, stairs, and carpet. The team began jackhammering and demolishing the concrete floors about the perimeters around footprint of the basement. Where there were obstructions, lots of hand digging was required. Because we have no easy access in and out of our basement (except through the stairs and through the first floor of our house), Charles and his team had to hand carry out the demolished debris one bucket at a time to fill a large dumpster.
Charles tested the city drain system to make sure it was working.
Once the debris was removed, Charles dug a deep central well where the drain system converged and laid down perforated pipe around the perimeter of the basement and created the gravity drain system. Crushed rock/gravel was laid along with the piping and then sealed up with concrete. Additional work was done by brick and mortaring part of the fireplace hearth, and Charles went further by sealing some cracks in our garage floor (which has nothing to do with our basement leak) without additional charge.
After all the work was done, Charles and his team returned to the house and meticulously cleaned up all the tarps and the mess.
Overall the experience with Charles has been outstanding. There were no surprises and the work was done professionally. Through our experience with Charles, we learned that Charles does not just "fix things", but provides solutions to problems. We own multiple properties and will call/recommend him for such complex work again.
For the wet basment he jackhammered out the entire inner perimeter, excavated it down below the foundation by hand, laid the drain, crush stone, and then resurfaced. We found a great opportunity to place a gravity drain system due to the terrain of the lot which negated the need for a mechanical sump pump which was great.
The masonary work and replacment of the hearth is beautiful and level. The chimney also looks great and is water tight. The last project was replacing an old bulkhead door that was set into decaying masonary blocks. Rather than just spakle and patch, he excavated around the foundation, really repaired all masonary, set the new door on, then plastered over all the outside seems. I and none of the other contractors that have been working at my house have every seen such a great repair of a common nusance..the bulkhead door. This was masterful, and it looks great and will surely outlast me.
As for work ethic, it is the best. He gives realsitic time frames, shows up very early and works very hard. He does not bump job to job and leave you hanging. This kind of work costs a lot from anybody in the field, but with Charles Zuccaro you get
exceptional quality and someone who is very multifaceted with the basement/masonary projects.
Would recommend without hesitation.
