until a customer has an issue. We received a new dishwasher that was
soaked inside and had clear mold. After requesting it be returned and
money refunded, the unprofessionalism ensued. In addition to an array
of bad behavior from the staff and owners, we were called liars and
treated like criminals. Unfortunately, we should have been leery when a
staff person openly slandered other ?difficult? customers, including a local business they said never paid for products
they received from Holloways. After being told they would not sell to
us again and a salesperson reporting back details to us such as "none of
us saw mold, we all looked at it?, we attempted
to discuss their refusal to sell to us with Gary, one of the owners.
We were told he was not in by Pauline. She even went on to comment on
the board behind her head which said he was in saying "oh this is all
wrong? and ?he doesn?t even work on this day".
Unfortunately my wife could see him up in his office perch looking down
into
the showroom with his sidekick Laurie (equally unpleasant) only to come
down after he thought
I left. I was then told "oh he is back now? when it was clear that
they had been caught lying to me. A few days
later, I was told he was simply ?doing inventory?. Sadly this business
has a great reputation, but it?s clearly reserved for the happy
customers, or at least those who fork over their money and make no noise
after the check clears, not the ones who get moldy
merchandise and have the audacity to object. We have been black balled
because of black mold. We were not comfortable taking delivery of a
brand new dishwasher with mold in it. They even delivered it in an open
pick-up truck vs a covered professional vehicle. We witnessed
not only unethical behavior, but outright immaturity and true
unprofessionalism. They will lie to you, treat you rudely, bad mouth
you to other customers, and all have a collective laugh behind your
back. If you purchase from Holloways, don?t have the gall
to have any concerns or complain about anything related to the purchase
? product quality, delivery quality, delivery time or method, return
policy, and heavens? forbid they do any damage during delivery or
installation to the merchandise or your home. We were truly appalled at
the frat boy nature under which this business is run. Sadly several
people explained to us that Gary was a hot head and his father Bob was
more reasonable. I feel sorry for this man who has built this business
in this community. His legacy will soon be tarnished if things transpire
with others the way they did with us. It was not only inconvenient, but
a waste of time, money and resources only to be left feeling frustrated
and angry with how we were treated. Top
it off with some old school bullying, we had a great experience!!
"We are sorry this customer sees this situation in this manner. Holloways has been part of Simsbury and the Farmington Valley community for over 65 years. We have built the trust of the community because we are the opposite of what this reviewer is alleging. Our staff lives in this community, their children go to school in this community and they serve our customers with respect, even in situations where problems arise. We want everyone of our customers to feel taken care of from the moment they set foot in the store to their delivery and any service needs beyond that. The numerous accusations in this review are completely unfounded and an inaccurate account of our communications with [member name removed]. All of our employees treated him with nothing but respect and immediately offered a complete refund of his money. There are times when a customer’s expectations cannot be met and it is best to gracefully part ways."
"I would like to respond to each of this member's allegations. We have reviewed all of the service history and talked to the servicers once we were informed of his dissatisfaction. First about price, he paid $659 for the dishwasher plus tax and installation, not $999 like he is states. This is a very competitive price. The dishwasher was purchase on 8/27/2009. Mr. Holloway received a call from the member shortly after delivery stating that the dishwasher was not working properly. Mr. Holloway told him we would get the unit serviced and offered him a 5 year extended warranty free of charge. The service tech went to his home on September 3rd and discovered that the drainage hose was not properly positioned and fixed the problem free of charge. A few days later we received a call from him that the lights were flashing on the dishwasher. The service tech went back out to his house and discovered there had been a power outage the night before and reset the dishwasher for him (this can happen after a power outage and the reset instructions are in the manual). This was also done free of charge. To summarize, he received a competitive price for the dishwasher, and Holloways followed up with servicing the problems in a timely basis. There was no need to replace the dishwasher because there was nothing wrong with the unit. At Holloways, we pride ourselves on going the extra mile to help our customers when problems happen and that is what we did in this case. We treated him with fairness in this matter but clearly his rating us all F's was not close to fair."
