This is one of the worst and least responsive companies I have ever dealt with. I’ve now been trying for two-and-a-half weeks with four phone calls (five if you count the voice mail I was finally put into) with absolutely no response. I called to ask how a product that has had a number of problems over five years and has hardly been used could need to have such an expensive part replaced. I also waited weeks without any contact whatsoever waiting for this part to come in. This company could care less if you have any kind of problem. DO NOT EVER get involved with them.

Calls and emails were left unanswered--at one point for more than 2 weeks. Each step of the installation took weeks go complete. Timing was never explained from the start. This was "the usual way of doing it." I was able to get a town official to sign off on the initial first step of installation within 24 hours, but that did not speed up the 10-14 day "usual" delay supposedly built in to allow time for the town official to sign off. Spicer insisted tank/line installation occur after counter tops and backsplash were in (the "usual way of doing it") when the line could have been installed and ready before the other kitchen work was complete. Installation of the propane tank/line took almost as long as the complete kitchen renovation. I had a beautiful new kitchen with a stove I could not use as I waited for weeks for Spicer to answer repeated phone calls and emails to set a date for a final hook-up. Communication is not Spicer's forte. Ask questions and get timing in writing if you work with them. One positive--the crews sent to do the work were professional and courteous.

Every year, they charged a $50 tank rental fee for 2 tanks holding 50 gallons of propane total. It occurred to me that I had never seen Spicer servicing or safety testing the tanks in the many years I lived at this location. I called them to ask what exactly the $50 per year rental fee pays for when they had never done any maintenance to the tanks. They sent someone to look at the tanks who then informed me that the location of the tanks was not up to code; 2 violations: 1. The tanks were right under a window 2. The tanks were right next to a window air condition unit.
I found it astounding that that Spicer had been filling these tanks twice a year (automatic delivery), they had not brought up the code violations or demanded that the previous property owner have the tanks moved to bring them up to code.
Another issue: Spicer charged an outrageous rate for the gas claiming it was their prerogative to charge several dollars above market for a small deliveries. And since I was renting their tanks, I could not source from any other supplier.
I have now contracted to purchase a brand new tank that will be installed to code. IOwning your own tank means you can shop around for propane from several companies. The company that is selling the tank promised a rate of 80 cents above what they pay. I will save several dollars per gallon for each fill compared to what Spicer charged. And no more yearly rental fee.
Here is the scariest part: The owner from the company selling the new tank looked at the tanks we'd been renting from Spicer all these years. One was made in 1957 and the other in 1968. Neither had been re-certified since 1987. According to him, they were both DOT tanks which need to be re-certified every 12 years. I'm relieved to no longer be living with unsafe propane tanks and no less paying a yearly rental fee for them.

They are very prompt and punctual. They are reliable and professional. They respond back to any calls about service in a timely manner. I receive a lot of value for my dollar when working with Spicer Advanced Gas.
