+ -1 moreThe contractor....Lou loved the challenge of designing and using old and new materials. I had ideas of my own but found I looked to him more and more for his ideas about how to do things. He was previously a professional photographer and had a good sense of what would look right and unique. He also did all the usual contractor jobs and managed any needed subcontractors without breaking my budget. I will use him again and would highly recommend him as well as those he employs. They were professional, neat and cleaned up their messes. Home remodeling was fun, easy and not as expensive as I would have thought.
Description of Work: This is a little cottage by a lake. Under 900 square feet. The home update had to be special!! I wanted to keep the cottage look and incorporate many antiques as I love the mix of old and new. We did a complete home update. A new kitchen was in order. The cottage is small so we needed to open up a wall and design cabinets to fit the small room. This kitchen and most of the update in this cottage was designed in " square inches" rather than square feet. The bathroom was also redone. We mixed antique looking marble black and white floor tile and subway tile for the walls. A large mirror to give the room more depth as it is a small bath too. We used a wall mount sink with an antique look. Next we put in hardwood ash floors with wide planks. Finished with a clear finish. We found antique doors and fit them to the rooms with some mix of old and new hardwear. All the windows needed replacing and a little antique window was put in off the kitchen to add light to a small hallway. We replaced a front door slider with a 9 foot high old door and 2 antique French door sidelights. We moved walls and made very good use of the space.
