In addition to these problems, I have since learned that the generator itself should have been set on a concrete or plastic slab, or at the very least on a bed of gravel, rather than being placed directly on the ground with no support under it. I had originally requested either a slab or some gravel, but was told by the provider that they didn't do that, and it wasn't necessary. The importance of having a support is that the generator won't sink slowly into the ground over time (it's very heavy), which could disturb both the propane and electrical connections. It's too late now for me to change this. Support should be part of a competent installation with any piece of equipment of this weight, and this is perhaps what I find most remiss in the provider's performance.
