They excavated the lawn in front of the new 2 car garage and installed the base. I was thinking of having the blacktop done in the spring. They were ready two weeks after the base was done, so I agreed to have it done.
They measured to our needs which allowed us to keep a wide gate. The new garage was on a pressure treat floor that was up about 4 inches. They sloped the driveway nicely so I did not need a concrete ramp. It looks very nice.
The price was competitive.
Crew showed up on time and did a great job on the driveway.
New black top surface considerably smaller than removed driveway.
All-in-all, as good an experience as one can have with this kind of thing.
I chose Morin as they were the cheapest and were doing 3 inches (2.5 inches compressed) paving - others were doing 2.5 inches (2 compressed) inches paving.
Till now the paving seems to be fine and I am satisfied with the work that was done. Time will let me know if there are any problems.
They were punctual and responsive.
based on his interaction with my wife she never wants to see him again or have him on our property. Caveat emptor!
"The following is our response to [member name removed] complaint: In [member name removed] attempt to disgrace our company’s name and work ethic, he failed to give all the details of his driveway which are listed below: (1) His driveway is on the side of a mountain with at least a 7% to 9% grade. The house is approximately 90’ to 100’ higher than the road. (2) There is a massive amount of water that runs off the mountain down to and along the sides of the driveway causing erosion. The previous and original driveway was completely destroyed by water. We were contracted to remove the driveway, install base, which was non-existent, and install asphalt. During the winter, we received a request to inspect the driveway for cracks in the driveway. Upon inspection, we found that a crack at the top of the driveway was evident as it was caused by driving off the edge of the driveway. The pictures that we have show numerous tire tracks in the same area. The [member name removed] were instructed no tot drive off the edges. We cannot be held liable if our instructions are not followed by the customer. Cracking also occurred at the very bottom of the driveway. This occurred from the massive amount of ground water coming off the mountain as well as the road plows hitting the driveway edge. We offered to repair the two areas at no cost to the owners. Their request for a $7,000 refund is absurd. The cost of material alone to do this job was over $10,000. It is very difficult to deal with people that do not cooperated with you in understanding the instructions after a driveway is paved."
Subsequent storms brought heavier rain and more damage. In mid-June water entered the basement on the driveway side of the house. Pooling water undermined stepping stones in the garden and damaged plantings. Landscaping has been damaged along the driveway and walkway. It?s now winter and pooling water is freezing?creating a dangerous condition.
The drainage problems are mostly the result of pitching the driveway towards the house instead of away from it. A fact confirmed by an engineering and surveying firm we hired to assess the problem.
Other Morin Paving errors: the driveway was widened when it should have remained the same width as the one it replaced; aprons were added to both sides at the street?should have been right side only; the work crew got asphalt on the cellar hatchway, marring the surface.
There were no drainage problems prior to Morin Paving?s work. (Purchased house in 2000.) In response to a letter in June 2013 outlining the problems, Kevin Morin came to see the job but offered no solution.
In October 2013, we sent the engineering and surveying firm?s report to Morin Paving. They refunded the $3,800 paid. Based on estimates from several contractors, the problems created by Morin Pavings will cost $4,400 to $5,300 to correct.
Right now: serious water problems and a refund that will not cover the cost of fixing them.
Note: We selected Morin Paving because they received many good reviews on Angieslist. A great disappointment.
went right to work, finished promptly.
did a good job.
