Sean came back to install them and he spent a lot of time here, making sure everything was working and that there were no leaks anywhere. He was very conscientious and was very neat. He got rid of all my garbage and his work has turned out to be fine. So far!
My only issue with Mennillo is that they seem to be high priced. I never discussed price with them beforehand (my fault!) and was quite surprised to get a bill for $595 for the work. Granted he was here for 3 hours and did need to go to a supply company for some different size rings and washer. I have nothing to compare this price to so I don't know if it's reasonable or not; just seemed rather high to me.
I would highly recommend Mennillo Plumbing. The work is of high quality. I would just recommend discussing price beforehand. I will use them again and I will be sure to discuss price.
IN FACT, HE SAID THE PIPE MUST BE BROKEN --- NOT HIS PROBLEM.
AS IT TURNED OUT, THIS WAS NOT THE CASE. ANOTHER VENDOR SNAKED AND FIXED THE PROBLEM.
WE HAVE SINCE BEEN TOLD THAT THE $526 MENNILLO CHARGED WAS EXCESSIVE FOR
WHAT HE DID (ASSUMING IT HAD WORKED).
WE HAD HIRED HIM BECAUSE HE HAD GOOD REVIEWS ON ANGIE'S LIST, BUT HE DID NOT
DO AND GOOD JOB AND HE DID NOT CARE THAT IT HAD NOT BEEN PROPERLY DONE.
During home visit, Bill recommended against a tankless model, as it would have been expensive to drill through the old house foundation, and our low usage (2 people, small house) would likely not be worth the significant added cost of an on-demand or hybrid unit. Available space in the basement was too short for a high efficiency "fully-condensing" unit, which he would have otherwise recommended. I chose to go with the standard 6 year AO Smith conventional "shorty" model, on the recommendation that it would last as long as the 10 year model if properly maintained.
Workers arrived on time for the install, were professional with their work, and answered numerous questions during the process. They explained how to perform a yearly tank flush to prevent sediment build up, which would otherwise reduce tank lifetime. They also explained the safety features of the new hot water heater, including how to start pilot light, set thermostat, and keep air inlets at base from becoming clogged. I requested that ball vales be installed to replace the old gate valves to make for a faster and easier emergency shut off.
Bill noted several "features" of our plumbing and heating system that should probably be replaced at some point, including a bad gate valve at the main water inlet, and several parts of our old furnace that should be fixed or replaced. He said that nothing needed to be fixed immediately, and recommended using the heater for the winter and having the repairs done and/or replacing the entire boiler next year.
I had called a few other places on Angie's List before chosing to go with Mennillo Plumbing, but none of them were as helpful during telephone conversations, and only one had enough knowledge of high efficiency models to make any recommendation. Though Mennillo's price was at the high end of the estimates I received, I am happy with the work performed. The new water heater works well, and the sweated joins on the copper pipes look more professional than the ones that were previously in place.
