He was quick to come see the job, and was well prepared to demonstrate his ability to do the job. He had a photo album with pictures of similar jobs he'd done for other customers. I received a detailed description of the job and a quote shortly after his first visit. He also indicated that the price was negotiable.
I had several quotes and although his wasn't the cheapest he seemed like the best choice. To be competitive he entered a lower bid. He still didn't beat the others with the lowest price, but price wasn't the only consideration. He seemed to be the most skilled in this kind of work.. My husband wanted some clarification so Kevin came back again and they discussed the job in depth.
We signed the contract and the work commenced on time as promised. Rain was a factor making it take longer than anticipated but he was there when weather permitted. Much of the work was done while nobody was here. It made it difficult to know exactly what was done and how much material was trucked in.
The job was completed and I paid the remainder due on 12/21/12. On 12/27/12 there was a storm and I woke up to find water had come up over the newly elevated seawall. I was concerned that maybe it wasn't raised as high as we expected it to be, but Kevin confirmed that it was.
It was specified in the contract that Kevin would come back in March to finish grading and reseeding. Contacting him to come back took several tries. He made an appointment to come and never showed up. It was difficult to get in touch with him to reschedule. Email, text messages and phone calls went unanswered. He finally called back, set a date, and showed up as promised and finished the job.
He fulfilled the contract. He verbally promised more than he delivered. It would have been great if he either did what he promised or never made the promises in the first place. There were some misunderstandings that could have been avoided if he responded faster to inquiries after the job was completed, but I'm satisfied that the job was done well.
I also want to add that he did work for my sister's seawall next door and did a great job. She and her husband are 100% pleased with his work.
