He gave me an estimate over the phone of $3100. The estimate in the mail said $3200. When I called him he said, "Oh, the secretary wrote in the wrong number". He put down the gravel and rolled it. I called him about the last area that was very different from the rest. It looked dirty. He said it was just the dust in it, and it would wash off after a few rains. It did not change color. After phone calls from the realtor (who had recommended him), he showed up, and he picked at the driveway with an ax, saying,"look, that's stone dust". It looked like mud to me. He said I didn't ask for "decorative stone", and that would have cost 3x more. And he would turn it over to his attorney uncle. The owner of the stone company graciously offered to give him whatever stone he needed to replace the brown stone. He did replace it. However, now there are areas of tiny, blue-grey stone and dirt. They look like puddles of dirt. They are not covered with the larger stone the remainder of the driveway has. Also, there is a gully along the entrance to the garage. I have a very difficult time getting my motorcycle into the garage because of this lip up into the garage. I mentioned this to him when he was here the second time, and I asked him to add more stone then, but he left without doing it. He's asking for the remainder of his money, but he says he wont' add anymore stone. I am left with areas of dirt that look awful. He is hot-headed, and often talks of taking me to court. After I asked for the brown stone to be replaced, he sent me another bill for the "$3200" plus extra charges for the Round-Up and an hour of labor to put it down, and labor time to drive to the store to get it,and to take up the old driveway material. This bill ended up to about $3700. All this was included in the original $3100 estimate.
Description of Work: He gave me an estimate over the phone of $3100. When I received the estimate in the mail, it was for $3200. When I called him, he said, "Oh, the secretary must have made a mistake". He put gravel down in my driveway, but about 1/3 was a different color (brown instead of the blue-grey color) of the remainder, and these were much smaller stones.
