I am on my fourth house now and last year I used HouseMaster, they were the best inspection company I have ever used. Much better than others mentioned. They found minor and major issues and save me thousands of dollars. They also came out at no charge to help me identify some issues unrelated to the inspection.
I would highly recommend this company to all my friends and family. In fact, it was my real estate attorney who recommended them and I agree with him!! They are A+
Upon closing and taking possession we uncovered many deficiencies that were not noted on the report. These included rot along the sills, water damage and rot to several areas in front and back siding, blown seals on double pane windows, mold in the attic and basement rafters and inadequate ventillation, and a grossly underestimate to repair a domestic water pump.
The inspection came with a guarantee and we contacted them with our concerns and the inspector returned to review the items which had also been photographed and sent to them. His immediate response was defensive and he stated that the State of CT only requires them to record and report on MAJOR issues - all of what we reported he considered minor. He did state he was going on vacation and that since the original concerns were emailed to the company we needed to document them in writing and mail this to the company which we later did.
We never received a response to our letter nor a phone call.
Previously, we had been under contract on a different property a month earlier. The company we used for that inspection was Coastal Home Inspection who did a much better and very thorough job. We are extremely sorry we did not go back to this company as we are sure we would not be in this current situation.
Bottom line: STAY AWAY from HOUSEMASTERS in Norwich, CT. and DO BELIEVE the negative reviews you read about this company on the Internet.
