Harold from T&H Mechanical was hired after I thoroughly researched everyone on Angie's list as well as many names from my associates in the building trade. I immediately developed an appreciation for Harold. He is a no-nonsense professional who worked with me to come up with a price and design that seemed to me to be a good value (I never buy the cheapest or highest subcontractor - I seek the best value with workmanship as the highest priority).
Harold is not a typical sub-contractor who believes his ego takes precedence over professionalism. Harold is professional in every way starting with being very knowledgeable about HVAC in general, about Carrier specifically, and he is intelligent and easy to talk to. This was very important to me because he was remedying a previous failed system that required extensive re-zoning and re-configuring. Any minor issues during the discovery stage and troubleshooting stage were easily and pleasantly resolved. His employees are top notch. Jan, the mechanic who worked on my home, is a big guy but gentle as can be. He is clearly very good at what he does, if not perfect (I could find no way of improving on his work). Every single thing he touched was an improvement over the previous installer and evidence of his workmanship is seen throughout my home. Harold also brought in others to assist with controls or additional mechanical needs and all his employees were equally professional. The system now runs beautifully.
Of course, workmanship is of the highest priority to me but, so is the respect someone shows for my home. Harold and Jan were always very respectful, taking off their shoes even when I insisted they keep them on; leaving the job site perfectly clean at the end of each day; didn't play radios and were always quiet and efficient. Any time I called Harold following the completed service, he responded near instantly. They just left my home yesterday, 6 months after the initial job was performed (I always wait some time before writing my reviews). During a family stay-over last month, we noticed for the first time that one of the bedrooms was getting too much heat. I called Harold and mentioned that during their installation, I told Jan not to put in a damper for that zone because it seemed superfluous. However, it turned out that I needed it. Harold never blinked an eye and said that it should have been part of the initial service and would not charge me. I expected exactly that from Harold because this time I chose my HVAC contractor wisely.
Note: the only category I gave Harold a "B" on was price. I think his price was very fair especially compared to his competition in Connecticut. I think it's the price of doing business in CT that drives me nuts and why I gave a B. But, I will only use T&H going forward as they are overall a great value because the workmanship is tops but you are paying median prices - I'll take that every day of the week.
