Apparently this was code 13 years ago. We replaced the roof with longer lasting pressure treated cedar shingles and stainless steel nails are now code. They showed up a week late but it turned out they work extremely fast and efficiently.
I did have to have them come back and fix a few gutters that became malaligned. This only became apparent once it rained. They brought in a huge dumpster and cleaned up beautifully. Make sure you clean out your attic beforehand. It causes a big mess inside as well. A few people warned me of flat tires from debris. We did not incur that problem. Every day a few dropped nails fall off the roof for about 2 months afterwards but it's not a big deal.
